Hello everyone![]()
I reinstalled windows and updated new drivers for my M17xR2 as shown on Latest check list thread by Grimfan. System is running well![]()
However, i lack certain basic knowledge to tweak settings within the OS, bios or using third party softwares like Tuneup Utilities, PGWARE GameGain, PGWARE GameBoost, PGWARE PCBoost and others like it.
I dont know how reliable these PGWARE softwares are as i have never used them PGWARE - Increase the Speed of Your Computer With Our Software.
Tuneup utilities is i think very popularly used in computers but dont know what settings to do there.
If any of you are aware of these applications or any other, then please guide me.
Also what software is best to overclock the ATI 5870 cards and which are the stable settings?
What changes should i do in Bios or Windows if any.
My requirements are smooth frame rates in games without sacrificing visual quality, good HD video playback and overall healthy system performance.
Games like Crysis is still surprisingly not that much playable on the max settings even after having a crossfire setup. I use 2xAA and 4x AF in most games.
I use perfect disk 11 to defragment my hard drives. Thats it.
So before i mess up anything in my machine i want to get opinions from our members of NotebookReview![]()
Please share what ever helps me to get max performance in a easy way.

Howdies cheifs,
What are your system SPECs?
Depending on your system specs and CPU version you will either be able to OC it in the bios (5% OC) if you own a 920XM or 940XM CPU or you can use SetFSB to OC the CPU as well. Trottlestop made by Uncleweb can also be a useful tool.
Also for certain games turning off AA or MSAA or setting them to the lowest setting will aid the game run much more better.
ATi seems to have a problem with AA in a few games. I've tried the same game and settings on Nvidia GPUs and they run much better without that much of a performance loss.
For OCing the GPUs there are guides here however you will most like have to flash the vbios with new OC settings to get a stable OC. No software works well with the 5870s now. Not in Crossfire anyway.
You can set Catalyst AI in CCC to advanced and use that setting for everything unless you ever have any troubles or performance problems then you can try setting it to Standard.
Also I'm assuming that your running on the new Dell driver with Vbios combo?

Reborn,
Question that you might be able to help me with. I am currently using A02 BIAS and is wondering what BIAS will fix my no start with battery only. This is not all the time like 1 out of every 3 times my computer gets to the welcome screen then shuts down.
Any thoughts and suggestions would be great-full.
Also with so many advice of BIAS installation, which one in your opinion I should use. -
I would recommend the BIOS A09 version. Which is also the newest latest version. There was a known problem starting up on battery. Where you needed to make sure the battery was fully charged or at least 70% charged and above to make the notebook startup properly. I think in the latest bios it has fixed it to around 50% battery charged where you will have it startup properly. So give bios A09 a go and see if it fixes your issue chiefs.
Cheers. -

TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
Latest VBIOS and drivers.
Disk Clean and Defrag.
Minimize background processes through MSCONFIG.
Make sure you're not in Stealth Mode.
Make sure your power profile is set to High Performance.
In CCC, you should have every slider to the far left ACCEPT for Catalyst AI and Mips.
Run ThrottleStop, if it's applicable to your CPU.
You can't do a whole lot else without buying an SSD or a 920/940XM CPU. Nice setup by the way. Hope this helps. -
