Howdy folks, got a M17xR2 from outlet and battery charges fine but it shows 80% full and throttles the laptop. Connection of the power adapter shows error "Non Dell adapter connected" Any suggestions on how to correct this?

I had this same issue... (non Dell power supply) as well as crossfire being disabled... After much tech support (and holding), I was sent a new computer with a new power supply...

I tried the new power supply with the old computer, and lo and behold, the old computer operated as designed (no throttling, crossfire worked, 4 times faster in benchmarks, etc.)...

I'm guessing you may have a bad power supply and the only fix is more cowbell...errr, new power supply.

Yep, dell is notorious for sending out the old 210w adapters with alienware's from the outlet instead of the 240w that they need.

Contact dell and have them send you the correct adapter (it is slimmer and lights up around the plug, not on the brick itself)

Also, buy an extra battery, otherwise you won't be able to play games for more than 10 mins.

I don't know if you have tried this, but something you might do to rule out any other issues (like BIOS) is get the box running and disconnect and reconnect the power supply once or twice. Do a restart and see what happens when it is connected to power then. There is a very small memory space within the BIOS system that keeps some low-level machine configuration data when power is off, and it can occasionally need refreshing. Once in a great while anyone (not just you, with your issue) can get a BIOS error that will straighten itself out once the BIOS re-writes that configuration data.

But yes, you may need the higher-wattage power supply, so check the labeling on your power brick carefully.

As the good Captain mentioned, see the BIOS A10 thread. If you still have an issue after updating to A10, post in that thread.

    Closing this one.
