Hey all, ran into an issue today, looking for suggestions. My Alienware 17 has the AMD R9-290 GPU in it. I've been running on the 14.7 drivers with no issue. However, the new 14.9 drivers are WHQL certified (unlike the 14.7) and supposedly more stable and provide better performance. Problem is that when I install the 14.9 drivers my computer no longer recognizes my GPU at all. Tells me that no AMD GPU is present and everything goes back to the Intel integrated video. I've completely removed all drivers and reinstalled from scratch as well as installed on top of the 14.7 in both regular and safe mode, no luck getting the computer to see the GPU. Even the Alienware preboot diagnostics report -0- rpm's on the video card fan with those drivers installed. It's almost as if they turn the card off completely. The computer can't see the card.

So, any ideas or suggestions before I just revert back to the 14.7 drivers and wait on the next round of driver updates?

It's incredibly strange that Amd has always had issues with drivers to their lapttop graphics card.

Thanks guys. the 14.9.1 Beta is working fine. Not sure what the deal is with the other one. I think it MIGHT have had some sort of resource conflict with the broadcom network adapter, but I'm not positive about that. Either way, all is well atm and I think I'll leave it that way for the time being.

But yeah, AMD has had issues with their mobility drivers more than once in the past.

This is what we recommend. They are made to work better with our hardware.

If Alienware would regularly update their drivers we probably would, but the performance gap is huge between Dell drivers and AMD drivers.

That's true, the AMD Graphics Driver from Alienware is like a year old and I got a 1000 more points in 3DMark but I had other issues elsewhere hence, I am forced to stick to their outdated drivers :(

Please tell Alienware to give us some Graphics Drivers love! I know they can't keep up with the latest ones but 1 year with no upgrades is not acceptable for a gaming laptop

On my Alienware 17 Ranger has now been 10 months since there has been upgrading to the Nvidia GPU driver. Nvidia has already released 9 pcs new WHQL drivers since Dell's latest driver update (331.65) for my gtx780m. Nvidia has already come to version 344.48. This is not acceptable for a gaming laptop. Exactly the same goes for Amd gpu drivers. There have been several New games that need updated gpu drivers from Dell. Fortunately, I can use the drivers from Nvidia's own home page. :)

AMD's 14.9 worked perfectly with my 7970M.. Only upgraded to 14.9.2 since I wanted a higher version :)

A higher version of drivers are not always the best driver. It can often be a disaster! :D

So which is the best AMD driver for running games?

    Edit:
Latest 14.9.2 beta works great on COD AW. At least 10 more fps than my beta 14.6.
    Enjoy.
