so whats the correct way to install these when you have the 12.11 beta drivers ?

    1) just install these over the normal drivers and reboot ?
    2) remove old drivers in device manager - reboot - install new drivers - reboot
    3) ...

I think you dont have to delete old drivers, but i did it anyway.
    It costs just one reboot.

Ok, WTH is this? During inatall everything went fine, showed installation complete without errors (though it installed very quickly and showed only three components to be installed: CIM, AMD APP SDK Runtime, HDMI which sums up to only 100mb... and no display driver, no catalyst control center (where are the important parts??!!). After install it didn't even prompt me to restart, but i did anyways... and in device manager it still shows that i have Intel HD graphics 4000 ... And yes, I clean installed them. Thease are either corrupted or bull... don't install, This is some kind of a bad joke. Going back to 12.11 Beta11 ...

strange, what happens if you turn off the HD4000?
I have turned it off and had some kind of error, don't know where to find the log, but the drivers and everything is installed, see above post and it's working.
also in my case without restart but still it's installed, can confirm it also.
And performance is a little bit better

Installed no problem on my M17XR4 , process seemed to take the same amount of time as any of the previous drivers. WoW seems to have gained a few more FPS in Pandaland on ultra settings and it is buttery smooth so that's good. Will try SC2 and LoL later on. Apparently these drivers fix the screen flash glitch wth LoL's latest patch.

for those coming from 12.11 beta and gained perfomance :

what have you done exactly to install these drivers ?
uninstall the old ones and reboot (with driversweeper ?), then install these ?

How the hell could you have installed these when there is obviously no graphics driver included? Your performance gains are most likely a placebo effect since there is no driver... I installed these using the clean install method (driver sweeper) and it didn't install anything. These don't work... if you are installing over old drivers or uninstalled without sweeping, you are just using old drivers... And if there is a driver included,I suspect it's only for desktop cards and not compatible with mobile cards, so it won't install.

In short, NO. The long version: During install everything went fine, showed installation complete without errors (though it installed very quickly and showed only three components to be installed: CIM, AMD APP SDK Runtime, HDMI which sums up to only 100mb... and no display driver, no catalyst control center (where are the important parts??!!). Boy am I glad that I read the comments first!! :p

I get graphics issues on 12.11 - any version which half's the fps after the laptop has been on for more than a few hours.

    I'm still using 12.10

I already try it. Just Install it on top of my previous 12.11 + caps 2. Installing process went smooth except 1 errors for HDMI Input driver (if you see the error log). Brightness control still not work on discrete graphic, No problem at Switchable graphic, No driver crash with Windows 8 Whatsoever. And it really fix the Dishonored games, no crash to desktop or stop working bug like it happen when I still used 12.11. I will try with some of other games too.

Yea, that's windows 8 alright. You can go to control panel - Program -default program -Make a file type always open in spesific program. Just looking for .xml extension there and set your default program into whatever you want. I choose XML editor though, and I can see the log report after that.

You can check at software info at CCC (bottom tab) and see if yours is like in my post above.

So to sum up, don't install these using the recommended method (uninstall old, sweep, install new), but install over old ones and cause a mess in your drivers. In my book, that sucks badly. I'm better off with 12.11 beta11...

Coming from 12.10 because 12.11 beta always blue screened my computer. I had to do a fresh install last week of windows because my drivers were so messed up from playing with them that my card wasn't even running at full clock speeds anymore. Didn't uninstall anything just downloaded the mobility set of drivers and did the install....and it clearly installed the GPU driver as the screen went off and back on again so to the people complaining about no video driver I don't know what your talking about. I think a lot of the problem is people fiddle with drivers so much that it fills the system with garbage and it never gets truly removed. I laugh at everyone bashing AMD over this....I have had this computer for months and never had a problem with my 7970....the last hiccup was due to me installing beta drivers over and over trying to get them to work so I just spent a few hours clearing the system and everything went back to normal. I have always been able to run all my stuff on ultra settings and never had a problem...even on the stock dell drivers.

Pistino, You're the new owner I guess... ? All the Alienware Laptop users at least 1 year must already aware about how tricky the updating Catalyst driver process. If you goggle or search a couple times back in this forum, there's more than 5 way about how people updating their system. Some people lucky enough to just install it on top of previous driver, and some don't. Even on the same system configuration. You just try and find the best method for your system. Mine can Install the update driver directly since the 12.9 beta 2 driver come out, but before that, need to get BSOD first and reinstall the driver after restart method to get the driver installed properly.

B4n6k3, the best method for me is a clean install. I know this by the fact that every single driver i used worked and installed correctly except this broken one, which during installation (ANY installation, including over old ones) doesn't show up the driver component (the important component) as being installed. Thank you, for your esoteric alienware insight... your AW may have a mind of it's own, mine doesn't and works as it should. ... Also notice, that you have a diametrically different card than I do. Also regarding the BSOD, sounds like something is wrong with your system.

bud im pretty certain you tried to install the Desktop drivers and not the mobility drivers? That would explain why no driver was being installed. ;)

Edit: And driver installed fine for me. I don't have the Igpu enabled though so I don't know if it works with that enabled.

If you installed all the same drivers and software as we did then you shouldnt have those problems cause its working for the rest of us.
otherwise your laptop is damaged and you should return it

Should I install drivers with enduro enabled, turned off (via fn+f7) or twice (once when it is enabled and once when it is turned off)?

Last time I installed them twice once when it was off and once when it was on, but I'm not sure if this is the correct way.

There might be something in your registry not letting the driver install correctly, but if you already ran the .exe then you'll probably have a AMD folder in your C:/ drive.

Open the device manager, under display adapters right click the adapter and select update driver. Look for the folder under C:/ and install it manually.

Let us know how it goes

Did a clean install and the installation seems successful however catalyst control center won't start, so I don't know for sure.

Catalyst control center seems to be loading up after opening it, but it never opens. I tried checking in services to see if the catalyst service was running, however there isn't a catalyst service there. Reinstalling the drivers didn't fix this, any other idea's?

Try this guide for a clean install how to properly uninstall ATI/AMD Software Drivers for Graphics Cards. there's also an nvidia one I recommended many times here, don't use registry cleaners.

    Hi Everyone,

Has anyone succesfully installed these drivers with Enduro enabled? I use Enduro and am still using the last '9.01' performance driver as no version other than those have worked with Windows 8. The last beta driver 12.11 would not work in WIndows 8 with Enduro on, so I am loathe to try these and wondering if someone else had? The last beta drivers caused my system to go into a crash-loop with Enduro enabled. Thanks!

OK, now to clear up a few things. I was in the same situation, but have found the solution. Keep in mind my card is the 6970M. The desktop drivers will not work, so make sure you use mobility drivers.
First thing next make sure you make a system restore point, by pressing windows key + pause break, click on system protection, and create a restore point. Then so you can roll back if you need to, works well, and gives you a restarting point to try again if need be.
If you are on power saver graphics as known as the IGP, it will not install the key AMD display driver you need.
Switch to performance, the actual dedicated graphics card, and do the install, select custom install and you will see that the AMD display driver package will be in the list.
For any reason should your machine BSOD, or just reboot without you clicking anything, the install will not complete correctly. Just run it again and it should go through no problem this time around.
Once finished your should view the log, and use GPU-Z to check your driver version.

This was an over the top install onto 12.11 beta (I upgraded from the original Dell drivers without driver sweeping preiously), and in theory should work the same with any driver install version if followed like above.

I would never recommend using driver sweeper at all. It has screwed up my video card drivers multiple times and the only solution I found was to reinstall windows. :(

My 3dmark scores have gone up a bit, just pulled 6603 marks and not that the WEI scores matter but they are all now 7.9

Hell, only the 1 day and they release the beta...... :(

There is a difference view display for 3D Application Setting at Gaming Tab compare to the previous driver. Just see the picture. Just to make sure that you run the latest version for CCC, but for check the display driver version, you can use GPU-Z easily like someone post above. I don't have any idea why in your system doesn't have an information tab.

Well done AMD for me, way to get off your gluteus maximus. Unlocked the power we knew to be there with the 12.11betas and the 13.1whql fixed the couple issues I had with the betas.

    1) I had bsod's when booting to igpu right after the desktop appears everytime (read others had this issue to), no problems booting to dgpu. Now booting just fine to igpu.

    2) Total Media Theatre 5 was hanging while loading any dvd/blu-ray (app opens fine, hangs when attempting to read disc, force close and get an AMD driver error), seen this in the OP as one of listed fixes " Corel PaintShop Pro X3 – Hangs at the “Initializing Command Manager” window" and wondering if my "hang" was fixed to. Indeed it is, all discs play, no hiccups.

Got the performance at a minor cost for a short time, then got the fix that makes the performance that much sweeter. Ya I know, kind of like praising the person who broke it for fixing it, but computers are complicated buggers. I've only run 3D Mark11 on stock clocks to have the same relative score as betas and Far Cry 3 still stutters, oh well.

Thanks for the word OP, been waiting for these.

What I did to solve my issue of catalyst control center not opening was:

    - First I completely removed .net framework by running the .net framework cleunup utility.
    - Then I reinstalled .net framework 4.5 from microsofts website and ran windows update afterwards to update to the latest version.
    - Then I reinstalled the drivers by following: how to properly uninstall ATI/AMD Software Drivers for Graphics Cards. which j95 posted on page 4 (thanks for that).

Anyone seen issues the transparent overlay on some applications where it develops a checkerboard pattern? I seen it in some forks of PuTTY where they added background transparency but I also noticed it today in Firefox on 13.1.

    Example (with Firefox)
    sshot-1-r50.jpg

EDIT: I've reverted to 12.11 Beta 11 for now since the issue isn't there. If this issue clears up in a future version I'll work with those but until then...

Hey guys, I haven't been on the forum much over the past few months as I've been very busy at work. Anyway, I saw this thread and wanted to upgrade my driver as I was still on the official Dell driver. After doing so I ran the 3DMark 11 Test.

Back in August I got this result on stock clocks (P5851): AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P5851 3DMarks

No other changes, except this driver upgrade, and still stock clocks, today I got this (P6603): AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P6603 3DMarks

Is that substantial jump simply due to the driver upgrade? I haven't changed a single thing on my laptop other than the driver upgrade.
