Will the Panasonic UJ220 Blu-Ray Burner work in the M17x r2? If not can anyone point me in the direction to get a reasonably priced blu ray burner or player? Thanks

ive been using a UJ-235 brought it for my original M17XR1 and moved it over to my M17XR2 when i got it. I have neevr had any issues. The UJ-220 is not an option as it is a tray loading drive and the M17X is designed to use slot loading drives (UJ-235 is slot loading).

No a 220 isn't slot load, and if it says 220 slot load it's a mis-advertisement if you want a burner you gotta go with a 235. Readers alot cheaper, btw.

What do people do for blu-ray playing software? I read that the drives don't come with anything at all to play blu-ray movies.

Well in this previous life I lived I think I did alot of questionable activities which I won't go into details of what I did or how I did it, but we'll just pretend that I mysteriously downloaded these Large files that might have been Mkv Files. I would then supposedly burn these make-belive-video Files (that's what .mkv stands for) with this imaginary program that could be called Power2go onto these pretend Blu Ray Disks, power2go on my Make-Believe Laptop worked pretty well. Because this occured in my previous life the only blu ray burning utility that I believed to have known was only Power2Go by Cyberlink. It should be noted though that I'm actually unsure of all of this due to all of it occurring in one rather large dream I had last night.

Oh but I do know that I use Cyberlink Power DVD to watch my Movies that are Blu Ray. Version 10

The cyberlink dvd software that came on the m17x can play blu rays. And there is a copy of it on the drivers disk.

What is the part number on the blu ray reader? And how hard is it to remove and install these drives?

Cheapest that I know is CA10N, I think a bird told me that, although I'm unsure cause I think that occurred in the dream I had too.

Install is not for the squeamish you will need to remove keyboard, palm rest, the inner assembly and IO Board above the burner to swap out the drive.

Ok, I have taken off the keyboard before so i think I can do it.

    Edit:
The part number for the blu ray reader is CA10N? All the ads on ebay or this drive say it is compatable with the studio xps, but not the m17x. Did they use the same drives?

I am using the CA-10N in my R1.....promise....it works. There is a Sony Optiarc BC-5600S that also works. Both are READ ONLY!
