Good old Dell sales support staff. :D I just asked Dell if the drives that came with the R3, 256 GB SSD and 750 GB HDD, were SATA 3 and I was told by a Dell sales support member that the R3 does not ship with SATA 3 drives installed and in fact will not work with SATA 3. I have been told by people here that they do work with SATA 3.

So before I buy I want to know does the R3 have SATA 3 interface? Will SATA 3 drives work in them and from anyone who has recently purchased an R3 did your computer come with SATA 3 drives.

Ok first of all, the R3 does have Sata 3 PORTS. It does support Sata 3 although Port0 is a bit temperamental, fixable though. So bottom line is that the R3 does support Sata 3.

The other thing you have to remember is that ordinary HDD's are only Sata 2. There aren't Sata 3 ones as the platter based drives can't transfer stuff that quickly anyways. Dell may only stock Sata 2 SSD's too. This may be the reason why your rep said that the R3 doesn't ship with Sata 3 drives. There is an element of truth in what they said.

To conclude, the R3 may not ship with Sata 3 drives but it does support Sata 3.

Thanks widezu69. You say that Port0 is tempermental but fixable? Port0 is the boot drive port isn't it? Is that a software fix?

Port0 sometimes reverts to Sata 2. The easiest way around this is to put your boot drive in Port1, set that as primary in the bios.

The LPM (registry) fix has been known to get rid of this problem. Either way, you should be fine.

Thanks. So I can still get that smokin' SATA 3 SSD, I just have to fit it into the Port1 slot and adjust bios and then start grinning :) Appreciate your help.
