    Hey guys,

So I finally pulled the trigger on an Alienware a little bit ago after I was totally set on a Sager laptop. Just too many problems with them and I got a steal on my PC at only slightly over 1,900 USD plus an additional almost 300 USD in Dell giftcards.

I got the laptop today and I'm so happy that it booted up and the screen wasn't messed up after some of the horror stories I've read on here. But one thing I did notice is by my media buttons on the top (the volume and dvd control) don't run flush with the keyboard panel that it sits in on the right side.

The panel above the keyboard that has the status lights, power button, and media buttons sits in the overall bigger keyboard panel that sits in the chassis but the top panel fits in perfectly on the left. It doesn't seem like there is any extra space but on the right it seems to be sticking up slightly when I run my fingers over it but I can't push it down/over.

Also, my volume mute button is easily used and has a click feel to it but almost all the other buttons are harder to press to get them to respond and it doesn't really feel like a click at all.

So my question: are both of these normal? The panel sticking out doesn't really bother me as there isn't really any light bleeding but I'm wondering if it not being set right can be part of why the buttons don't work how I think they should.

Thanks guys for the help in advance!!!!

P.S. Can someone post a link where I can learn how to run benchmarks on my PC and results on what to compare them to so I can make sure my computer is performing correctly?

Oh yeah definitely but I'm not sure if this is just how it is or not. I don't want to wait another 2 to 3 weeks and get the same thing lol

congrats on your new R4! i'm still waiting on mine to ship out ;D

i think the media panel wasn't seated correctly during assembly. everything should be flush and aligned. my personal opinion would be to check out the m17x R4 teardown video on youtube.

it's really QUITE easy to disassemble up to the keyboard/panel part too see why it's not aligned. (disassembling does not void your warranty)

of course if you're not too tech savvy, call dell for warranty service. however.. from all the dell horror stories i've read about warranty service, turnaround time, and my NUMEROUS personal experiences dealing with outsourced customer service reps (specifically india), i'd just fix it myself.

check out the vid. i'm pretty sure you could fix the problem yourself. goodluck and enjoy your R4!
