Just got my M17XR1 replaced with a M17XR2 and after updating ym system experince i noticed that my video card is showing up with a rating of 6.0 is this normal for the 4870 in crossfire? My old 280M in SLI got a 7.1.

I get a 6.0 out of my single 4870 & my wife gets a 6.8 out of her single 260m, but if you notice at the bottom of the "performance information & tools" page, it also states:
The gaming graphics score is based on the primary graphics adapter. If this system has linked or multiple graphics adapters, some software applications may see additional performance benefits.

Aside from that, the Windows Experience Index ratings are not the most dependable anyway. Microsoft regularly changes the ratings numbers as technology changes. There are a few different threads in these forums that mention various ratings number changes for various hardware, despite no actual changes to the person's hardware.

It could be possible you have a disconnected cable between your crossfire cards. Check and see if crossfire is enabled, you might have to open it up.

    i can confirm 7.2 for 4870CF.
    You must have CF disabled...

The CrossFireX option is checked in the Catalyst Control Panel but i dont know where to go to verify its actually working. After doing this post i took the system apart to replace the DVDRW with my BDRW and the cable for the CrossFireX was definetly installed but it got reseated during my drive install anyway so i dont think its that unless its a bad cable.

Right click on your CCC icon in the task bar, go to the first card, CrossFireX settings and choose show crossfire status icon.
Now every CF enabled game should display the CF icon on top of the screen..
    Check if you see it..

    EDIT :
For example run Furmark dual GPU in fullscreen mode, you should see the icon on the top right corner of your screen.

    Cheers.

Well CrossFireX is working i can see it while 3DMark Vantage which gave a score of P12028 which to me seems like it is working fine. So now that im sure my system is running fine its now more of an annoyance than anything. Anyone got any thoughts as to why the windows score is at a 6.0?

Enter the config directory in 10.6, edit the only configuration file in there. Change workaroundinstall to true and try to install it again.
