Alienware 17 Reviews | Gaming Laptop Reviews

From these initial impression. It seems like each of the 3 laptops basically retained their Pros and cons from the previous generation. The only major improvement being the Matte IPS display. Another thing I like is the mesh bottom which along with a laptop cooler should allow the laptops to overclock better with XM processors..

The m17x with the 780gtx is pretty good value at 2199USD though. Just add the 780GTX (+$200) from the config with the 770.

Personally this to me is just a face lift from alienware. Nothing worth upgrading to if you are using a sandy bridge alienware already.

Think I will hold out, the price just doesnt justify it for me. The 3DMark 11 scores look a bit low as well only ~6000.

    What? Only 6000? I get P6100 with my M15X!

New refresh seems like its just following the same old routine rather than offering anything innovative like 3 mSATAs in RAID 0 or a 3K display!

Seems mostly like a cosmetic refresh, I wonder what the insides look like in comparison to the R4.

Definitely some sort of error with the 3dMark 11 scores, don't seem right to me. Battery life being shorter is a bit of an issue as well, didn't expect that after all the talk about haswell. Specially since I get around 5 hours on my R4.

No AMD GPU and the forced high end CPU's kill it for me. Also- still a base 900p display

88 degrees on the outside just by watching a video at hulu.. i can only imagine an oven inside the machine.

they really know how to spin their story.

great benchmarks on World of Warcraft and great fps on Bioshock Infinite on 1080p but with low settings. i think thats with the 780m.

with a $2,900 price point, i think they should have done a better benchmark

    +1

I am let down with how the configs are on the website. Forced 16GB mem for the first 780m option, forced 4800 cpu for 3D screen option. Seems a little heavy handed to me, I don't recall it being like this last year. If someone wanted that $2199 780m option minus 8GB mem to save $, add 3D screen cost without forced 4800 cost, I guess is SoL as I see it right now. Am I wrong?

No WAY that this report can be right, this was pre-launch soooooo......man i have no idea, i wish i could blame it on hardware or drivers but i asume AW would be smart enough to use the fully loaded models for reviews and the single 780M cards with BETA drivers already kick 30%more then the 680m.

    Damn....

On the review on this site, the 17 scored 6.9k in 3Dmark11. Still not as high as it should be but much better. Laptopmag's result could be a typo (5 instead of 6).
