Saw it in the m18x forum and just wanted to let the Nvidia guys here know.
    Download link is here
I'd test if it needs a modded inf, but my alienware is dead atm. Ill put up the Laptop2go inf mod as soon as its available for the 460m users as well as for the other non-supported Nvidia cards.

Hope somebody makes a use of this :)

Edit: swapped the link for the 64 bit version

Edit 2: Laptop2go's inf is finally up, get it here :)

I'll definitely need a modded .inf, just like I did with the 280.79 drivers. I read that this release supports AO properly, for Skyrim. Would be nice if it bumps up the performance of Skyrim too!

I don't understand what's the problem with Nvidia drivers, they state that their supported products, are: 9400M G, and GTX 280M, but the drivers will not install unless you use a modded .inf ... so annoying...

What exactly makes them incompatible, that the mods change to make compatible? Is there some sort of vendor ID that needs to pass the authentication check? If it's something along those lines, why do some vendors pass and other ones not? Does Dell/Alienware personally decide which laptops can have new drivers? I can certainly understand if it were a hardware issue, in that the gpu might be so out of date that the newest drivers just don't work on it, but to have it come down to something as simple as changing the .inf to get it to run...well, I don't understand the logic behind it.

    Thank God for laptopvideo2go, though!

The last patch from the NVIDIA website (285.79 beta) worked fine with my 460m without needing to modify any inf files. I would imagine the new ones do too.. unless for some weird a$s reason they added support for the m17x 460m in the 285.79 beta drivers, but decided to take it out for 290.34. That would be a little strange if so...

I'm downloading them now, we'll see.

Had to mod the nvdm.inf file to get these drivers to install on my 9400/280m-SLI combo. Unfortunately I seem to have lost the ability to switch between them in Hybrid mode even though the icon for it appears in the notification area. It just stays on the 9400 and neither the tray icon, which doesn't pop up the "Power Save/Performance" options, nor the Fn+F7 keyboard shortcut will change to the 280m cards :-(

Have switched off Hybrid in the BIOS so running just in SLI mode, but it's annoying as the fans speed up when doing basic things like using Firefox or other apps.

Hopefully it's an .inf issue and when Laptop2Go releases one for these I can retry the installation.

    ** Update **
Damn, just read through the release notes:
     Hybrid Power
Support for Hybrid Power, a Hybrid SLI technology, is discontinued and not available
    with this driver.

    Why nVidia, whyyyyyyyyyyyy!?!?!?!?!

Omg you are right, I cannot switch integrated<=> discrete either.

Like you, I hope it's just an inf issue.

I think hybrid power with intel chipset hasn't been supported by the drivers for a long time now. Not sure there is anything new here...

Anyway, it's not like we can trust the release notes. 200m series gpu should be supported... and it's obvious from what we have seen in the latest batch of drivers that it is not the case anymore.

    This is the real bummer:

"Beginning with NVIDIA's R285 display driver branch, older laptops with NVIDIA's Hybrid SLI technology are no longer supported by the NVIDIA Verde display driver program. If you have an older laptop that uses NVIDIA's Hybrid SLI technology, please visit our software archive downloads page to download NVIDIA display driver 280.26 or older version"

But it doesnt explain why a modded inf worked with 285.x regarding hybrid-sli but here it doesnt...

They have probably now started deprecating the code - I was unable to get the last beta to work at all, just kept BSODing, so not sure if it was still there with those. The last that did work for me were 285.62 and they still had SLI control.

The new 290.36 drivers work for me without having to modify any inf files. I've got the 460m if anyone is curious.

Very happy NVIDIA finally added official support for this card.

Wouldn't install for me and broke my 285.79 when I tried to reinstall too. Can't figure out why. M17x R3 460m I7-2820. Had to do a system restore. Maybe because I have the 1920x1080 screen with 3d? Don't use 3d though.

Reverted back to 285.62 - no proper support for Hybrid-SLI is a no go for me. I like the peace and quiet of the 9400 for general use and can easily cope with the loud turbines when I kick in the dual 280's for gaming.

I say proper, as I did discover that with the laptop in either discrete or onboard mode, hitting Fn-F7 would pop a box asking for confirmation then reboot the laptop having changed the BIOS setting. Still not good enough in my opinion, but maybe others might find this a good compromise.

    Damn you nVidia!!!! ;-)

Just had a sneek peak at some newer drivers (even newer than these) and the control panel has added FXAA. So a newer upcoming driver should have these featured :)
