Looks like a winner as long as you can get through the installation. As usual, 580m users won't have a problem. At least I didn't.

    They didn't for the 9400m/280m :(

** UPDATE ** And after modding them just as I have all the previous ones, all I got were black screens and BSOD's

    I hear ya Taomyn. :^(

My M17x has the same setup as yours and it just keeps telling me that it can't find supported hardware. Even tells me that with the 285 drivers before this new beta. Newest I can load is the 280.26 driver. Sucks...

How can we use an Sli setup for Skyrim? Isn't there a profile code that can be punched into the Nvidia Inspector, that'll do the trick? I seem to remember doing that for The Witcher 2, and it worked without a proper driver profile from Nvidia.

I didn't mod them. The .inf you mean? I haven't had to with the past couple downloaded from Nvidia's site. They just ran fine without any modding.

Kinda forget how to do it, to be honest.

if you have problems installing the 285.79 beta drivers, use the modified infs I attached below and put them in Display.Driver folder replacing existing files.

I'm having the same problem as you. I also have an M17x with 280m SLI. I haven't been able to drivers to install for a while now, right now I'm using 280.26 as well.

Surely someone must know how to get this junk to work.

I have the same M17x R1. this worked for me:
    • 285.62-notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql from nvidia.com
    • nVIDIA_285.62_INFs
Also, make sure hybrid is enabled in bios under graphics (second page at bottom)
    Good Luck!

    Need help, folks.

I installed it easily, but since then, i can't get the 3D enabled. I clicked on the "Enable 3D Vision" a few times with still no results. also, there's no Stereo 3d options on the nVidia control panel.

    Any help appreciated.

    Answered my own question, partly.

I just finished downloading and installing and it works on 460M Optimus without modded .inf.

I wish I could do that but, the drivers will not install, to even go in and add the modded .inf to the newly created folder.

    The 'gen2' is disabled.

Wish I knew why it says they are compatible on Nvidia's site, when they won't find compatible hardware when installing. Zero probs with the drivers up to 280.26! Simply click on the installer, and away it goes. *scratching head*

What error do you get? You should be able to extract the package without going further and install them and be able to replace the .inf file.
Maybe it's corrupted, try downloading it again.

After doing the usual safe mode, driver sweeper, ccleaner, reboot and start the install, the instal stops as soon as it goes into the process of checking for compatibility. That's when I get the message saying something about it not finding any compatible hardware. The 280.26 has no probs.

Are you saying that the directory tree is actually there, with all files installed anyhow? Just not being used? Hmm, I guess that does make sense. I just assumed that they were all removed automatically since the installer couldn't find any compatible hardware.

@Painkiller: the files are extracted to C:\NVIDIA.... You have to replace the .inf BEFORE the compatibility check, that's the whole point ;)

Even after a successful install the directory is still there wi all the files inside.

I take it that I would use the "have disk" method of install? Otherwise, wouldn't the modded .inf file be wiped out by using Nvidia's self extracting program?

Run the installer and expect it to fail, your extracting the files so you can put the inf in. ;) finally, place the modded inf you just downloaded here: C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\285.79\WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver

once you get that placed, all you gotta do is go back to the international file and run the setup file there. then you just let the installer run and you should be good to go. Hope this is clear enough, if you have any questions let me know :)

just go into the uninstall panel and uninstall them. After that go into the device manager and uninstall the 460m. Reboot, install drivers, and you should be good to go ;)

Bigtonyman - that got it! Beta drivers now working. My head wasn't thinking straight. Forgot that just by swapping out the .inf's, then hitting the setup program, ISN'T the same as using the self extractor that Nvidia supplies. Duuuuuuh... Kept thinking I'd just be overwriting the .inf's, defeating the purpose of installing them in the first place. Does everyone still get them over at Laptopvideo2go?

Oh well, lesson learned. Nice to finally have both cards working in Skyrim. Noticed a difference immediately.
