Hi
I have a quesion regarding a new M17x r4 power adapter.
I bought a 3rd party adapter with the same electrical properties as the orignal adapter. However my notebook doesn't recognize the adapter. It will supply power, but not charge the battery and downclock performance.
So I guess 3rd party adapters don't work for some reason with Alienware.
So to not make the same mistake I'm looking for an original adapter. The 1 I have is from Delta Electronics, however the best priced 1 I found is from Dell Flextronics. It also looks slightly different as the 1 that came with my notebook as can be seen from the picture below:

I'm note sure if that's what the adapter looks like or just a reference picture.
I was wondering if the Dell Flextronics adapter would work? It's the best priced original Dell adapter I've found that can be bought somewhere other than Ebay.
Thanks!

dell uses 3 conductor power adapters, one of the conductors (the center pin) is data, it tells the system what the adapters abilities are (ie wattage) or so i understand. as far as the image you show, that looks like it will be a 180 watt power supply which means your system will downclock on it and say its not a recognized adapter. i requested a replacement when i was under warranty and they tried to pass that off as an acceptable replacement when it wasnt going to work for full power gaming. i did also just replace mine again since it was starting to have problems being detected (one of the wires is breaking down) but i got one off amazon which was around 100. you can try the one you are showing but you should look for the wattage, my system (also an R4) uses a 240 watt power adapter.

I guess the picture is just for reference (and incorrect) then as that was a 240W supply. Only difference is that mine is made by Delta Electronics, while that 1 is made by Dell Flextronics.
Hopefully it'll work.
