Well, at long last I had Dell replace the motherboard and 280M cards on my M17x. Everything seems to be working but I notice now that the integrated chip is running very hot - around 60C even when not in use, and even though I DISABLED it in Windows. So, the fans are running pretty hard. Any thoughts on what might have triggered this following the replacement of the motherboard? I thought the chip was integrated with the motherboard, so the technician shouldn't have had to do anything special? The 280M chips's temp seems fine, they are idling at around 35C.

This chip is cooled grace to the CPU heatsink and between it and the chip there's a thermal pad, maybe he didn't put any or put the old one.
These have to be replaced when they become pretty thin.
I have the exact size of it at home,I'll post it here, now I'm at work and posting from my phone, sorry.
Pretty sure it's that,I had the same temps(I never use it eighter),replaced this thermal pad and now it's pretty cool.
Also you might want to change the thread title as it's not a R1 issue, that's why people think this machine is bad but actually isn't,needs maintenance like all gaming rigs!
    Cheers

So the thermal pad size is:
    20mm x 20mm and 1mm thickness
