I currently have a great running M17x R2 but would like to use my new OCZ Vertx II 240Gb SSD in place of my hard drive. Are there programs that would allow me to copy the hard drive to my SSD and then swap the SSD and use it to boot from? I have been reading about the alignment problems and clean installation guides but am hoping a direct copy could save me a ton of work. After making the SSD change, I would setup the HD for data files.

I would advise against cloning your platter drive to your SSD. You're setting yourself up for the problems you've just described. What's worse, losing everything and eventually having to reinstall, or biting the bullet and doing a full reinstall?
