Hello, I just ordered an M17x r4 with the following specs

    i7 3610qm
    AMD 2gb 7970m
    8gb ddr3 ram
    750gb 7200rpm hd
    Full hd 60hz screen
    Blu-ray drive
    Killer wireless wifi card
3 years warranty + 3 years accidental damage.

I will soon start to play a few games, possibly BF3, the new crysis, GTA IV again, and then will play a lot of GTA V when it comes out.

Don't think I'll overclock the gpu, but i might a tiny bit if it doesn't do any damage to my gpu to run GTA V that little bit more smoothly when i try to hopefully max it out.

I'm not a hardcore gamer, but i was wondering.... Should I get a cooling pad like the coolermaster notepal u3?
It's £20 with the 3 fans. Is it worth getting / the hassle of having a cooler? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend it, it is a pretty cheap way to reduce temps by a few degrees celsius, inexpensive, and it cant hurt. Though I need it cause I have the 6990m, and it runs very hot (mid to upper 70's), I think the 7970m runs a good amount cooler, but still I would say you should get it.

I recommend you wait until you are using your R4. I don't need one, but as always, it can help and you will want one if you actually use it on your lap as that is apt to block your fan suction.
All you need is something to lift up the back from the desk so more air can get to the fans. 1/4 to 3/8 inch lift keeps my temps under 70C.

Thank you. I think I'll wait until I get the laptop then and then decide.

I just ordered the coolermaster notepal u3 off amazon. Wasn't that much + I prefer the ergonomics of the laptop raised up slightly from the rear. And if the laptop's overall quieter, why not? :)
