Im accually new to having, and using an Alienware Laptop, in fact, my previous laptop i had was a Gateway FX 7811, which got stolen from my brothers stupidity of trusting a female to stay in his house which is where i was living at the time, He only knew this lady for 2 days, and warned him that she was up too no good, but didnt listen to me, and my laptop got stolen in the process.

Searching for a replacement , i came across this Alienware, and was very supprised to finding such a recent model in a pawnshop.

has a manufactuing date of April or May 2011. which was around first part of Novemeber 2011 that i spotted this laptop in the pawn shop.

they had it priced for 969.00 dollars, and negociated the price of the laptop to be 969.00 with tax., and put it on layaway for 5 months, as they had a 5 month layaway plan. I was unemployed at the time, but was recieving unemployment. So, it did take me about a whole 5 months to pay it off.

At about the time 5 months came, i did get a permenant job. Had this laptop about 1 month. There wasnt any Windows disk, no label for the Windows Product Key in case need to reinstall Windows. I do know after doing some searching internally, its Windows 7 Ultimate, and retrieved the Product Key using a small program.

What im not completly certain is of making a proper backup of Windows in case the harddrive goes bad, or later on , i intend to replace the C drive with an 128GB or 240GB SSD.

I did find a way to create an Image Backup of the C drive, which i hope is enough.

I have over 30 yrs experience with building computers, and repairing them.

I know most laptops these days within the last couple years, they dont put Windows disc with the system anymore, instead you have to create your own restore disk, and or repair disc, for options within the Start Menu. Ive already done this twice, on 2 other laptops.

BUT, on this Alienware, I cannot find any option anywhere to do this.

I did some searching on the internet about this, but havnt found solid info about this, or about backing up Windows to a disc that, or a way to do a fresh re-install to factory defaults like many do.

If you have info that may help me on this, it would greatly be appreciated..

Oh, one other thing too, i have the Seagate 2.5 inch 1.5 TB harddrive that is almost 15mm thick (14.87mm). I've read somewhere , where they were able to install in the the optical drive bay area, but cannot seem to be able to find the details of what the person did to get it in there. I've already looked inside the laptop and know its possible, space wise to fit it in there, just not certain what they did, or use for mounting the harddrive in there.

If anyone has info on that, would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank again,

    Ryan

Unnecessary. You do know the forum has been messed up a whole and this is happening a lot lately?

Did you check for a windows key under the battery? If you have that, it is perfectly legal to just use a rip of a windows DVD.

Oh, and it's ironic, but I totally bet ya that new laptop is stolen. Seems crazy for such a nice and new laptop to be at a pawn shop.

You can download an iso of Windows 7 Ultimate SP-1 (64-bit)(English) here:
http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-59465.iso. It's slow, but it's free and legal. You have to provide a legitimate Win 7 Ultimate key to activate.

Burn the iso to DVD or USB stick (4GB minimum; 8GB recommended) using Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool, available here: Microsoft Store Online. Install from there.

Alright Ryan, welcome to NBR and alienware ownership...

for the windows backup, I also have win 7 ultimate and for me to do it, just go to windows control panel.... if the view is set to category, change that to large icons... then select Backup and Restore... now, on the left you should see the options to create a system image and a system repair disc..

For the optical drive replacement with a hdd walkthrough... its on here somewhere....
check this out by NBR member DR650SE

    Hope this helps

*Edit*... wow.. the forum is all screwy.. none of these posts were here earlier...
