Here is the story, I try to increase ram for my system (slot 3 and 4), the one underneath the keyboard. So I read the posts on this forum and the user manual, and watch u-tube. But accident do happen, after I install the 3rd and 4th ram, the system wouldn't start up. Nothing shows on the screen, and it starts beeping 10 seconds later after I press the on button. I removed the ram, still beeps. I check the connectors, none seem to be disconnected. I remember I used a litte too much force when I picked up the front panel (the one on top of the keyboard). I wonder if i had damage that front panel cable and cause the machine not showing anything on the screen. Someone please tell me what to do. Frustrated with my computer skills. Please advise me on this issue, :(

I would try each stick of ram in each slot 1 by 1.

Hi bennetic and welcome to NBR.

What OblastSRT4 said is a great idea. Your computer will work on one stick of Ram and it is possible that you have a bad stick. So try them one stick at a time in slot 1.

What model of M17 have you got and where did the new ram come from?

thank you all for the quick response guys/ and girls, I will try it when the sun rises, I think i will try to count the number of beeps first, then switch the ram 1 by 1. Its too scary to have that kinda beep going in the middle of the night.

btw, mine is a R4 with 3610, 8 Gb ram, and geforce 680.

Well, time to call support I guess. Did you perhaps get the accidental damage protection warranty? If you didn't, there's always the chance that they won't say the failure is associated with your actions...

7 beeps isn't always related to CPU failure, have you tried 1 stick of ram at a time as recommended previously?. Maybe you'll find that the machine posts using one of the ports. Another thing you can try is to clear the CMOS battery. I'll leave you the owner's manual so you have an useful guide.

i'd say, rather than getting your laptop into worse condition, why not just call in tech support.
unless you really know what you're doing, even then i would rather let the techs do it for me.

ok, I called the Alienware Support team, and they tell me to power reset and cmos reset. And then my laptops works again. I guess i didn't push hard enough when I install the ram, so it gives error and the error won't go away until a power reset after a cmos reset. Anyways, thank you all for your help. Cheers~!
