So I know I've gotten this to work on my laptop with my Xbox 360 years ago before I had problems with this laptop and had to do a fresh install of Windows.

Today I tried to hook up my PS4 to my M17x R3 via the HDMI in port and the video works fine, but there is no sound.

I've searched for tons of solutions and the main one seems to be:
    -right click the speaker icon
    -go to recording devices
-right click on HDMI in, go to listen tab, and check the box that says "listen to this device"

My problem is that HDMI in does not appear in my recording devices or playback devices tab. I just updated all my drivers too and it's still not there.

i had the same issue with my old ps3, my solution was to set it on the ps3. You cant settup anything as hdmi-in is non linked with your OS if i'm right.
