On my m17xr3 when ever I pressed the NumLock button I would get a message on the lower right side of my screen : "NumLock: ON" or "NumLock: OFF" but with the new AW17, I am not getting an such message.
How do i get that back?

I just checked on my aw17 after reading your post and there is a box in the bottom right hand corner that says num lock on or off when I push the numlock button. I know this doesn't answer your question on how to get it back but just to verify that it should be there and work the same as your m17xr3 did.
I have the latest alienware 17 model.
