    Hi Guys,
I've got an m17x-r2, and I, just a few days ago, had my power socket replaced because it was loose, My old AC adapter began receiving the above message while booting, so I purchased a new one off of amazon.

    ( Amazon.com: Alienware M17x DELL Delta Made Original/Genuine/OEM Alienware Slim-Line Laptop AC DC Adapter Charger DELL P/N: PA-9E PA9E FAMILY 240w 219.5V 12.3A: Computers & Accessories)

I am still receiving this message, and my battery will not charge. The battery is currently dead and I can only use the laptop while the battery is taken out, however, my performance suffers dramatically.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had to use my other Dell adapter for the past week for my 17X R3. Because it was a lesser wattage the battery would not charge and the performance suffered. Perhaps the adapter you bought is not quite right for it?

I actually just purchased almost the same item from Amazon for use as my 2nd adapter. Should get here in a few days. If you don't have an answer for your issue by then I'll update as to whether it works properly with mine.

Thanks for the info. It is the same 240W adapter by flextronics, identical in every way. Hopefully it'll randomly start working D:

have you tried a full power drain?
basically disconnect the power and take out the battery pack
hold the power button for 30 seconds (dell reps told me a full minute to be sure)
re-insert the battery and plug in the power, turn on and see if that helps.

i kow it sounds ridiculous but i've had this happen to me quite a few times and this fixes it every time.

if this doesnt work, have you got another source of power to try?
maybe it's the new wall socket/wiring?

If you've tried a known good AC adapter and it is still giving you the error message, it could be the motherboard.

I've tried the power drain, that's usually what I do first whenever I have any problem.
While i was getting my power jack fixed, the technician told me that he tested the voltage or something throughout the board and there was 1 section were it was supposed to spike at 3.3v (or amps, or something, I don't remember exactly) and it maxed out at 1.8

The new AC adapter seems to provide more power than the old one, as I was actually able to play some games today without the whole screen turning grey with failblog graphics.

If it is the mobo then I guess i'll just deal with it because I can't afford to replace it D:

I also have an r2, and suffer from similar issues. Funny thing is when this happens to me, as silly as this is going to sound, I just wiggle the cord a little bit where it plugs into the laptop. I am also out of warranty and I hope that it doesn't get any worse, because as it is, it takes me five min sometimes to get it to work. Hopefully this may help you, and I will be following this thread in case anyone else has any ideas.

Wiggling the cord around was what caused me to have to get my AC Jack replaced so I would caution you in doing that. My performance was fine and now it's all messed up again D:

Can I ask how much it cost you to have it replaced or were you still under warranty?
