Please take it easy on me, I've never owned a laptop before.

I usually shut off my computer every night. I noticed that when you close the lid with the computer on, it goes into sleep mode. When you open the lid it wakes up very quickly. It seems like a win-win situation. The machine gets to rest with the lid closed but you don't have to wait for boot up when you need to use it. Note: it sits on my desk plugged in most of the time.

My question......is there a reason to NOT use sleep mode? Does it cause more long term wear and tear compared to a full shut down?

many users experience "wierdness" when a system comes out of sleep or hybernate. Nothing to do with the R3...just a windows thing....

Ok. Thanks guys. I'm still using the drivers that shipped with it (6970m). I guess I'll be on the lookout for "wierdness" and decide based on that.

I should point out that the test bios in the linked thread does actually cure sleep/resume problems for the R2. I dont think there is a test bios for users suffering from the same issues for the R3 yet. If anyone has an R3 and experiences such issues, please post on my thread so we can get Dell to address the R3 problems also.

    Regards
    Stevie.
