The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

Ok so I'm new here and hell I don't even have my alienware yet but I noticing something about these forums. It seems anytime someone talks about the R2 the thread is closed. Is there a reason for this?

The last thread I commented in seemed to be very civil and no one taking sides with the R2 or R3. Can someone let me know why we people are not even allowed to help other people make up there minds?(assuming it stays civil)

I just purchased an R2, waiting on delivery, but before I purchased it I came to these forums to find out about the R2 and R3. I really wanted to know which had the better video cards and provided more bang for its buck. Only problem was, after read many pages in this forum, I felt if I asked a question concerning the video cards the thread would be closed.

I really like to read the posts here but I am concerned that threads get closed to easily here, hopefully this one won't :p

It is all what you want to be able to do with it. There is really no real better this one or that one. They all are the best at what they are, R2, R3. Even the R1's are loved by some and have had great luck with them. Each one is special in its own right. ;) Enjoy your new Alienware Lappy

If you have a question concerning a thread closure or any other moderator action, PM a moderator.

As for R2 vs R3 threads... this is exactly the reason -

We have a sticky on this -
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/551755-r2-vs-r3-debates-no-more.html

The comparison of video card topic (benchmarking numbers) and many others has been addressed in multiple threads which are open both here and in the Graphics section of NBR.

One reason a thread may be closed (aside from forum rules being violated) is the thread topic already being discussed in another thread. If this is the case, we will usually merge the thread or close it with a re-direct. This will be happening more so in the coming days as the re-launch of the 17xR3 will bring more questions. We have other models here and want to minimize the 'spam' level (its really not spam) of new R3 threads when possible. This will help in keeping the forum better organzied for all. We have the 17xR1 and R2 owners and some of them have been feeling overwhelmed with the R3 threads. This of course is going to happen but if we can reduce this a little, everyone will be happy. The re-direct of new question threads which have already been answered will also help in keeping those questions centralized for potential R3 owners.

If you have a question on the 17xR3, please do review the FAQ thread before posting...

If your question is not answered, feel free to post and ask in that thread.

    Thanks everyone.
