    Any recommendations?

I bought a really crappy one from radio shack and the M17x completely dwarfs it in size.. can't support the beast at all.

Oh and my CPU is getting 49 degrees at idle.

I think what Moo was trying to say is...

    NZXT Cryo Black
    Zalman ZM-NC2000 Black

These might better suit a silver chassis ;)
    NZXT Cryo Silver
    Zalman ZM-NC2000 Silver

Also, with the NZXT models, I recommend seating your M17x forward a bit as the vents cover the lower 80% of it's surface. It will still do some good if seated squarely, but in reviews I've read (using an M1730), the cooling efficiency was increased by simply sliding it forward.

I wish I was a self made millionaire like you guys.

Anyway regarding the cooler I picked up a cheap one at my local Best Buy over the weekend just because I felt the fan was in the right spot. The only issue is I've never seen the CPU go over 60 with or without a cooler. Until we can do something to make the system hot I think it's useless.

With that said my kids limit my gaming time to about 30 minutes so i don't know how hot it gets after 2-3 hours.

Well mandrake, if you really want to burn your system.

I can truly say OCCT is the heaviest test around for windows. (is at the start of the m17x benchmark thread)

Run the power test (the one that uses as much of the hardware as possible, if it passes an hour of that, you have a system well worth the money :D )

Haha, i suggest running hwmonitor or everest (strangely everest has been chugging on my lappy) with all temp sensors on and monitor them closely. It helped me identify potential goals for my machine, and for now i will attempt to replace memory thermal pads and CPU thermal pads.

Rivatuner's the god of temperature monitors. fully customizable, in-game overlay, plus you can graph the temp levels for each sensor.

I let occt run for 1 hr straight and did not break 69 Celsius.. A couple of the cores peaked 71 Celsius a few times.. The built in fan did not let it get hotter and it was 100% utilized for the hour.

You too... This is the first system (m17x) where i have seen it affect game play. I get hiccups every 8-10 seconds when it is running.. I turn it off, and all is smooth.. Never had everest mess with any of my systems before..
Maybe I need to get an updated version.

Antec 200 laptop cooler... though newegg is out. I'm using it for my G1 m17x its sturdy and has plenty of open areas for air to flow and vent out. It matches the size perfectly, but you'll need to find a bag to house both of them (I use the AW Orion Messenger Bag). I'm also not sure if the bottom rubber guards on the new M17x will land on the panels on the Antec model (looks like they should though).

I just received the NZXT ACC -NT Cryo - b (black)

    http://www.amazon.com/ACC-NT-CRYO-B-Aluminum-Notebook-Cooler-Adjustable/dp/B0014GVZS
Man this thing is sweet. Made a big diff already. My MCP temp was 80 Celsius and now on the cooler it is 61 when playing wow, cpu went from 62 Celsius down to 40 with max so far 45ish playing wow and the GPUs are at 40-46 Celsius with this cooler...

now need to do a raid and see under full load how much of a diff it makes.

What a big difference this thing makes.. Very worth it..

Perfectly.. they are both black anodized aluminum

Fits it perfectly.. no over lap or wasted space... I really like it so far..

Btw it comes with the ac adapter now.. no need to email them to send it.. I know that was an issue in the past.

I would expect a switch somewhere. So using the USB for power would be better so if the system is off it will be off assuming you also have the default USB power setting in the bios.

Just hesitant on using usb since this thing does draw lots of power.

How much power do you think it takes to spin three fans? I'll give you a hint...less than anything else USB you might plug into your laptop.

well its more than u would think on this unit.. ppl that dont have powered usb cant use it.. so it does need a power capable usb slot.. and some notebooks I have seen barely power the fans through usb but when they use ac it runs as it should.. so i dunno... no worries.. i'll use ac at home and usb on the road.. hate having to have tons of ac adapters when i am portable...

thanks for the pix and great to hear that the cryo LX is very effective for the M17x. that means i won't have to buy a new cooler :D

i power my cryo LX thru an AC-powered USB hub. one thing i noticed was that when i powered it, with just the AC plug, it didn't spin the fans as fast as when i used the USB to USB plug. now i just power my cryo LX with the AC plug and USB to USB plug to make sure it's gettin sufficient power.

Yea i just did both and noticed some more power with it too..

I am happy with the cooler. It does make a good difference on keeping the system cooler.

Its nice with the usb hub that is built into it.. I can run all my cable to the back of it rather than off the side of the system.. also with it being elevated, my mouse isnt running into the cables on the right side any more.. There is enough room that the mouse can go underneath all of them..

Just with there was a power button...

I second the vote for a power button or switch. It's more convenient. Need some EE to come up with an easy mod. My father loved doing that stuff in his prime. Maybe I can get him out of retirement. lol!

One would think so. Are you referring to the cable that goes from USB to the power input? Would be even nicer to create your own USB to power switch mod without touching the Cryo.
