Had no issues with the installation. It didn't even require me to restart the system, installed in-place perfectly. Rebooted after reinitializing SLI fine.

As I said in the other thread, monitor now only has 60hz as an option which is damn nice (bye bye 59hz).

Will test it for gaming and videos (Flash/WMV) when I get home.

Reserving my opinion as I found a weird clocking issue, not sure if it's related to 260.89 or a hardware failure yet... see other thread I have.

these drivers (like any other since a year now) didn't change anything about the poor borderlands performance on my M17x.

No mate, Dell upgraded it to the M17x R1 in my sig.

Drivers running great, very smooth in BF:BC2, L4D2 and CO. No issue watching movies either.

honestly, this is the worst verde driver so far for me.
I tried it as soon as it was out... clean install... and it crashed 3 times within an hour. It was horrible.
I moved back to 197.16 and everything was fine again.
Yesterday, I thought I'd give another shot and within like 10 minutes.. another lockup.
Now I'm on 260.63 beta. They seem to be more stable than this for me.
The only thing good about 260.89 is my temps are really lower.
    ------------------
Edit: And it seems like I'm the only one facing problems with these drivers.
Did you guys do uninstall... safe mode... ccleaner.. and reinstall? or just clean install option from the installer?
I tried both but still getting lockups.

    smooth install from 260.63 betas.

issues with Nvidia User Experience Driver and Driver Helper Service still there like in .63 betas (although it doesn't seem to affect anything?)

as far as crashes are concerned, for playing games in hybrid mode, need to switch to high performance power profile (seems when cpu is forced to max clock no issues) otherwise black screen appears in different games after a few minutes). Like with betas, no issues anymore with flash or pdf in web browser

Used the fresh install option during installation. Also, I only run discretes, integrated is disabled in BIOS. Did not install 3D driver, and have set PhysX to run on 2nd card (not dedicated).

Okay I just installed the new driver. Finally stopped being lazy LOL and had a bit of time.

So all is well. It installed no problems. Testing it out with FIFA 11 and MOH Tier 1. Temps are nice and low and fan speed and noise are also super low and nice on the ears now. This is a combination of the new driver and the cooling mod I did earlier in the week using new thermal pads and Tuniq TX-4 thermal paste. Temps are really rocking and awesome now. The fans are always spinning at the lowest RPM 1997 and hardly hit any higher levels unless I've been gaming for a little while. The 9400m GPU temp has also lowered considerably as well from the high 80s to 90 degrees C to the low 50s and 60s now.

The games are running nice and smooth. No problems. Haven't really noticed any major performance boost or anything but no dip either.

For the driver installation I always go into safe mode and driver sweep CC clean and reg clean everything before installing the Drivers back in normal OS mode again.

    Cheers. :)

Installed. Working great, higher SC2 performance, lower temps.
    For installing driver:

    1. Go to BIOS and turn on Hybrid
    2. Uninstall PhysX -> 3D -> Display.
    3. Restart Windows after uninstalling.
    4. After Windows loaded, wait till it finish installing default graphic driver and click "Restart now" on the box.
    5. After that install the new driver.
    6. Restart after installing.
    (7. Now you can disable Hybrid if you want to)

I didn't use Driver Sweep CC.

I downloaded and installed theses the say they came out. great graphics/fps improvement in a lot of games, (AVP2010, FFXIV, ext...).

No problem installing, just had to st SLI back to "on" after the first reboot. I did not have to uninstall PhysX or any other Nvidia programs, (Nvidia tools, ext...).

I have been using them since the first day, and no problems =^_^=

Could anyone recommend me a driver to roll back to?
Both NVIDIA's latest 260.89 and dell's latest 257.38 are giving me lockups every 15 minutes or so.
197.16 works fine on me but I can't use sli profile updater with it because it's not 256 driver.

Strange, I haven't gotten any major problem with both nVIDIA 260 beta and whql. The only problem I am getting from 260 beta & whql drivers is after logging in Windows, the screen brightness becomes 0, I have to manually set it back everytime.

I used to follow your driver tests on your blog.

These have been fine for me - played plenty of Borderlands and STO the past few nights and not one crash or any other oddity. Still having to use ThrottleStop to prevent the system grinding to a halt, but that's no big deal as long as I remember to make sure it's running.

I get your point but still, if you use low 197.xx or whatever drivers that were out just after the release of Borderlands in 2009, you can be certain that you will not need throttlestop to enjoy the game. So yeah, i'm still not happy ^^

Hey, anyone who is having lock-ups with these (or other 2xx drivers)(or those not) can you try the following:

    1. Go to Device Manager
    2. Click "View" and then enable "Show Hidden Devices"
    3. Under "Non-Plug and Play Devices" check for "NVR0Flashdev".

Was working on yet another issue (bugged 6to4 Adapter) when I noticed this gem. Google, saw it was a relic of nTune (which funny, shouldn't be there), deleted it out of the Device Manager and also did a registry search to make sure it was gone there (had on entry, backed up and deleted it).

Don't think it will stop the lock ups but I have yet to find an commonality between those that experience them or even what the glaring difference is between those that do and don't.

I installed the 260.89 just now and let it run for about 30 minutes running "Glyph 2". Yes, the simple game without crazy graphics. But i am at work, and the only game I have on the laptop is WoW which need an internet connection. Anyhow, I got the black screen and forced hard reboot that i have had since any driver after Dell's 197 P06. I'm starting to wonder, all the people in this thread seem to be running SLI with either the 260 or 280. Im running a single 260, how about the other people that are getting the black screen?

280SLIs with the same issues with the betas and this over the last couple of months. The nTune part does not exist. The only thing of note is that I've never locked up while playing a full screen vid in XBMC, which is about 70% of this machine's use. Browsing, etc and I'll typically lock up in under 45mins.

No changes chiefs. Not sure whats going on with the large number having issues and then the other half not having them.

I did get my GPUs mobo and LCD replaced last time I had issues. After that I did do a complete format and OS re-install. Everything has been working great again ever since. I've always followed the latest drivers that come out every 2nd day from Nvidia lol.

I do still get the odd occassional crash or dump from time to time. Its not that common. Like maybe once or twice a month or never. I think I had one a few weeks back and that was on the 260 betas. Otherwise all is well still.

Good luck peeps with sorting out the driver issues.

    Cheers. :)

Probably the least problematic Verde drivers I've tried, my machine crashed a few times, but I think that was because of Fallout New Vegas which is pretty buggy, didn't have time to play anything else.

I've once again reverted to 197.84 though, because I noticed a significant decrease in the quality of videos (TV shows in 720p), and now that I'm back on 197.84 I can see the difference, very strange.

When I got my first black screen I came back to 197.84 those drivers are extremly stable. So I don't have to be afraid of having a black screen in any time, I don't know what the problem is, but I am relly tired of these "verde" drivers, suddenly all the good thing about NVIDIA drivers became in a bad thing, now I am not wondering if my video cards are going to gain in performance I am only wondering if my system is gonna crash with the new NVIDIA drivers. This sucks !

You need to double check that the Nvidia driver service is always running and starting up everytime you restart your notebook. Also make sure Hybrid SLi is enabled in the system bios. Its best to start the notebook with the AC adapter plugged in otherwise the Hybrid SLi in the bios will become disabled.

    Cheers. :)

    Hi

I have recently installed the driver on my m1730 with 8800m gtx, but I can't locate the SLI enable tap, which i used to have in nvidia control panel.
Additionally, I have checked the device manager and it says 'Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)' with one of my 8800.
Can anyone please tell me what to do?

Yes,go to the new nv control panel, you should see on the left list something like "sli and performance"
there should be an option "maximum performance"(1st option) sorry if it's not exact but I'm typing from my phone,I'll clarify it when I'll get home
if nobody does or if you're good with this. Good luck

Do you notice any screen flickering(dots, lines) probably not a card problem! Is it the first time you encounter this problem?
Try erasing the drivers by booting in safe mode, restart, boot into windows let it install the default vga and do a new install of the drivers!

thanks for your advice, but I still have the problem after following your instructions :(

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

is the card dead or something?

are there any other drivers which are more stable for me to try out?

try starting the laptop with one card and with the other one to see wich one is problematic! Or if you have another machine to try it in it's better!

Does anyone know where the 3d driver is located in the registry? I can't uninstall through windows so I think I just need to remove the registry key.

Oles chiefs if you run registry cleaners and driver cleaners. Driver sweeper + CC cleaner or Driver Cleaner Pro in safe mode it should do the trick.
Also uninstall the drivers and GPUs in device manager.

    Cheers. :)
