    all on R1:

    nvidia user experience driver still crashing at session startup:

    annoyingly unresponsive (sort of a flickering black screen) while running on discrete cards when session starts, or when the screen is turned on, beta did this also but i don't remember if drivers versions previous to 270.xx did this. It's starting to get on my nerves... (it's almost 10 seconds of pure wth is going on)

    can sometimes BSOD when switching integrated <=> discrete.

    Disappointing that once again Nvidia isn't updating their drivers to support the hybrid setups with the Intel chipset.

    From NVIDIA DRIVERS 270.61 WHQL under "Supported Products":

    "1.Notebooks supporting Hybrid Power technology with Intel chipsets are not supported by this release."

    Has Nvidia abandoned this technology already?

    Roykirk, Hybrid Power technology is hybrid graphics version 1, whereas Optimus is essentially version 3.

    r3's 460m is not included for whatever reason (pick one):
    1. Dell didn't pay to be included in the verde program
    2. Dell asked nvidia not to support the m17x-r3's 460m in the verde program
    3. nvidia hasn't gotten around to supporting the m17x-r3's 460m in verde, but will eventually
    4. something else

    Any answer is as good as the other.
    Solution: AMD

    The M17xR3's 460 DevIDs have simply not been added yet to the NV Verde releases. This is something that is, according to an older post by one of the Alienware Reps we have here, being worked on and will hopefully be done soon. The rep did not have an ETA for this.

    As for Hybrid Graphics (think M11xR1 and M17xR1), its dead and was replaced by Optimus.

    the option is disabled in the bios, has been for quite some time now ;)

    it's just that lately I have been using my 280ms to crunch some primegrid workunits on Boinc so the R1 barely runs on the integrated at all right now, maybe the issue i'm describing when running on discrete cards was there since the beginning?

    Ah, my mistake. I didn't realize Hybrid and Optimus were different. Thanks for the info and I hope that the R3 gets some Verde support soon.

    A bit disingenuous, don't you think? Plenty of others have 460M's as well and this isn't an option without warranty voiding, if it's even possible to switch out Nvidia and AMD cards.

    But thanks as well for the info on Hybrid vs. Optimus.

    Been running the 267.76 (and now the 270.61) for the last few weeks with PCI Gen 2.0 still enabled. Had one in-game crash the whole time. Had no Flash/WMV crashes at all. Much improved stability.

    Can anyone reference updated benchmark results with these new drivers? Im curious to see if these drivers have closed the gap for 285's vs 5870's. Im noticing a healthy increase in gameplay smoothness with no issues so far.

    Only tested Batman Atkham Asylum...

    197.84 -----> 48 fps AV

    270.61 -----> 46 fps AV

    The good thing is now I am getting SLI to work with some games like Assassin's creed 2.

    my fans won't kick in high speed with these drivers. i'm hitting over 80 degrees and the fans blow lightly.

    more tests show that its my bios update to a07 that's killed my fans. inlet them get to 100 degrees and the fans were still at 0%.

    I'll try ref lashing and see if that fixes it.

    Just updated my M17x R1 to 270.61 (single 260M). I'm now able to use the GPU accelerated Mercury Playback Engine in Premiere CS5! One problem though - had a BSOD during the install of the driver. The comp reset, and had to run through startup repair before I could boot back into windows. I was playing music when I updated, and I might have had Premiere open also. Maybe that was it?
    Anyways, Mercury GPU mode in Premiere really does help playback, glad I went through the update to 270.61... for now...
