Nvidia needs to step it up and enable 3d on the 580m!
-
But is that a Nvidia issue or a Dell issue? I think Dell is the one choosing not to let 3D work with the 120hz screen.

Was thinking to import it from the US, but with shippment cost and tax it isnt cheaper. Dell lowered their prices about 550-600 euro's so its not going to be cheaper.
I'm haggeling right now, not very good at it. -

Which site is it you saw the 6990m on? I'm guessing that's a typo as it's the 6970m everywhere else and when I checked the european site it showed as a 6970m unless it's a different site you're on.
-
Which card would you recomend? -
Depends if you need things like Physx/Cuda and also if you like Nvidia more them AMD.
Personally i would save the money and get the AMD card since you cant purchase it with the 3d screen as of yet and that would have been a large selling point IMHO. -
I dont care about Nvidia or AMD just want the better card. Had a 3D GTX460m without any problems, but I read Optimus is kinda buggy sometimes.
Well hey got 5% off.
Currently emailing about the 560m. -
Got a nice quote for the AMD 6990m, 2146,26 euro inlc. shipping. I going to order that right now. I might not even pay tax, so it will be down to about 1800-1850 euro's which is a very sweeeeet deal.
Funny thing is that the same config with the 6790m cost 2169,80 euro's on the site.
Its also a popular laptop deal and then it will cost 1913,30 euro's on the site.
So look at the deals first!! Do not order from the site, chat or call for discounts!!!
There is no sign of a replacement for the GTX460m in the 3D system. -

Wonder why Dell decided to launch the 6970m in a market other than the US first, typically they'll launch in the US first. Uh well, if it wasn't for the ridiculous conversion rates I'd see if I could source one from Europe but don't feel like paying $1,000 for a card.
-
Did you try a US Alienware sales rep?
Just tell them you want to order a system but arent sure about the GPU options since you heard rumors about new GPU's. That worked for me. -
Just got the final order quote and payed it.
Got it even cheaper, think someone wanst paying attention. Got it for 2033,13 euro.
I'm not complaining.
Specs are at the first page. Now the waiting game begins. Should be here in about 4 weeks. -
Wow, I'd really like to know if it's really a 1120 shader 6990m or if it's simply a typo and is a 960 shader 6970m.
-
Well the rep told me they had 5 card options, 2 not listed on the site yet but he could order them.
If its not the right card I will return the system simple as that. -
I just chatted with a Dell USA rep. No 6990 here, at least as far as he could tell. I can post the chat log if you want me to.

crap, wrong thread
sorry guys -
-
I asked my rep about the 6990 and he said he knew more than he did about it. So I guess it won't be hitting the US anytime soon :/
-
i don't know about you guys but i can't seem to find this card anywhere
-
The 6790m is removed from the UK/Dutch site, maybe the site is being updated.

Yep, the 6970m is removed and no sign of 6990m..
-
LOL...what could be going on
-
Maybe Dell ran out of stock? Heard some rumor that the 580m and 6990m cards arrive the 12th of July.
My payment is pending, once Dell procceses that I will receive the definite order with ordernumber, etc, etc. -
Just asked a rep to spec out a system for me. i7 2820QM, FHD and 580m GTX all for £2130. Seems alot! Dayum!
-
Received the definite order. EDD is on or before 02-08-2011.
-
Doesn't surprise me.
All of Germany and Austria is receiving the 6990 instead of the 6970. Even orders placed as early as the 20th of june seem to be cancelled and replaced with the 6990. At least thats what several threads on several forums are saying. Supposedly 60€ more, but you don't have a choice either way- the 6970 is gone. Of course, online you still order the 6970... only to receive a call the following week. -
