As the topic puts it, I'd like to ask the gurus out there to advise me which card to buy out of the two. Which is faster ? robust ? easy SLI/crossfire maintainability / stability etc etc ?

What would you pick and why  ?

    Nvidia 580m or ATI 6990m ? :D

Both basically give you same performance, but the 6990 is alot cheaper. I see no reason to spend significantly more for a 580m honestly.

First of all the M17x R3 has only one MXM slot so there's no way you can have SLi or Crossfire.

You've asked a great question and one that is often the subject of controversy among fans of each brand.
