Nvidia GTX 580m available for AW M17x r3!!!!

SO after calling Alienware a couple few hundred times! i have ordered an Nvidia GTX 580m Today!
The price is $549.00! So if you guy want one here is the part#: 3ms8r I did not get eh part for the AMD 6990m but the price is $427

Nice find. Good price too. This will be a nice easy upgrade for a lot of 460m owners.

 

Just called Dell and they are telling me the correct part number is 3mf8r and price is 1189.99....for one card. The rep i got kept saying to me that 3ms8r doesnt exist. The part number for the 6990m is rdrgr $614.99.

I called 1-877-717-3355 if that matters. Is there a different number or something im missing?

 

That is what the last 199 calls were about! hahaha
They say they wanted a techy to install it for me...(for an extra $100)i said no, of course. Just keep trying them! they confirmed it with my last night to me! they called for vertification that i bought it and the second one to vertify what card i wanted and they said the "amd 6990m or the Nvidia GTX 580m"

keep trying guys! that is the right part number!

P.S. i do have a certified dell techy store near me and he can ussually get me part cheaper but for this one he said it is the gpu i wanted but he could not get me a discount because of a reason that i for got something about consumer...

So ..... The $549.00 price is a fluke? And on top of that the part number doesn't exist for 199 out of 200 rep calls. I guess no one else will be able to get this price, or has anyone else got lucky? Would seem strange Dell sells something for a lower price then other vendors. Such a thing is not meant to last

 

Ill try again tonight but im not feeling so optimistic about it. I tried about 2 more times last night, 1 additional call and 1 sales chat and all the same. hopefully tonight fares better results.

It looks like you're being charged for work $549 and video card is for free. I doubt anyone else will get so lucky. Let us know how it turns out. Dell can still mess it up

 

I tried calling back about a dozen times or so and same old thing..over a grand for a 580m. Guess lorddinky got lucky.

 

Man, the people who got those 460m's got screwed. I swear it seems like they dont even work and every outlet r3 has one or two of those POS's in it.

 

That quote looks to me like Dell caved and gave him a deal just to get him off the phone!

 

Keep us posted! 550 is a lot for a video card but very cheap in the laptop world! I'll be sure to snag one also if possible.

You failed.

The 460m plays every game at highest ultra settings with two or three exceptions and then only with lower aa etc. It also over clocks well.

We have two 460 equipped r3s which work perfectly since feburary.

Now we have a fabulous upgrade path once the 580 price inevitable lowers.

 

Not with 3D enabled.

 

I do not see the problem with 3D. All my steam games and WOW play just fine. Anything over 30 fps is just fine with me. Me thinks some people just don't like what they don't want so must be no good.

 

so after figuring one more shot i said what the hell so i tried calling one last time. I said well my friend bought it for 549 ill buy it from you RIGHT NOW for that price. She sounds like shes willing to do it. Not sure if shes completely stupid or what. We'll see what actually gets shipped to me.

 

Stereoscopic 3D - with the glasses. Cuts frame rate in half. You petty much need a 580m to get playable FPS.

 

aaarg so damn close, i got charlie bravo'd by her supervisor who stepped in mid call then told me she was making a mistake and the card is 1189. Needless to say i told the supervisor he was out of his mind and hung up.

Well.....i am very angry at dell they said to the would expedite the order....and the said it was on backorder.... Dell customer care said they would ship it after the 28th this month....

Also, you might want to update your original post to the correct part number. Your OP says its part number 3ms8r, but in the order status link above the part number is 3mf8r. Just don't want people to get confused.

@QuadX that the part number 3ms8r is true from the quote. for some reason they changed it? but "3ms8r" is on my email quote and i paid 549 for it did you?

 

The first time I tried and told them the part number you gave in the OP. They couldn't find that part number but they could find 3mf8r. I paid a total of $526.08 with overnight shipping....but its been "in production" for two days. :-(

yeah so wheni get agrny i got out off propitiation. SOOOOi canceled my order b/c i want to cancel my order which too 3 hours and 18 transfers!.... BUT I when back to techinical support and they resubmited my or saying it was an exception for that cheap of a price b/c i already paid he said it would to take a couple to day to be submited b/c of this issue but they emailed "Dell Customer Care" and ed at them to gte my order SHIPPED! this is their response!

Sooo cheers! just a matter of time till we both get the order!

Bad news. I just called. They said it has been delayed again until the 3rd of October. Any news on your ends?

 

Are they sending you a new heatsink?

 

I got a call today on my outstanding service request, and they said the availability was Oct 1st now (for the 580m), so the 3rd sounds reasonable as its the Monday after the 1st.

 

They actually already sent me one. The 580m HS is the same as the 6990m. But the 580m has a different mounting bracket and has a small heatsink and pad mounted underneath with the bracket. So the heatsinks are compatible, but the mounting brackets are not.

 

Ah ok. Wanna flog me a spare heatsink?

Yup, I got the same news myself...580m available on Oct 3rd. Hopefully it wont get pushed back again!

 

I got that also BUT, 1 of 3 told me that and they said since it is marked as a replacement...i will process faster, also i got a call yeaterday(28th) that they were instock... so i am crossing my fingers!
