Hey guys just noticed that the 580 were removed from the Canadian configurator for the Canadian M17R3. Any idea to why this is? Is it they're emptying their stock for the 680m. Getting ready for the r4?
-
I do not see it either on the US site.

the 580m = 675m
We don't know anything about the 680m if its even going to be called that or when it will be available.
There is a shortage of 580m's everywhere right now. Dell won't make it available because it will delay your order by at least a month so it's not a selection option right now -
They took it off the American one for the M17x as well, though still on the M18x. I think its a supply issue, I know several of us have had our M17x orders delayed due to the 580m being out of stock. They prolly don't want to deal with it until it's inventory builds up again.
(even on the M18x if you select the 580m it delays the order by like 2 extra weeks) -
It's still available for the M18's though. But only the sli configuration
Oh ok if it's just a supply issue it should be back within a week or 2.

i hope amd releases a legit next gen soon. I hate how nvidia is playing the renaming game
-
Meanwhile we wait patiently

I can't even start to imagine how you feel. I'm just eagerly waiting to place my order.
-
I was about to buy my M17x with the 580 tomorrow and when I checked the site today they were missing... Has anyone seen this happen on the DELL website before, and would it typically return?
-
Even its removed from DELL US, really have no clue why they are discontinuin GTX580. it was a failure?XDD Dont think so might be its successor goin to get new name as GTX660 or GTX 675
-
Quite surprising, bought few months ago from canada with 580 and it arrived 1 week sharp. Maybe this 675 won't have problems 580 have?
-
Dell has been back ordered on the 580m since the beginning of Feb. late Jan. they might have removed them because they're trying to fulfill current orders and may want to build up stock.
They might also be ordering just enough to fulfill current orders and pulled the card because nVidia is either A) Having a difficult time building enough, or B) Is starting to produce the next gen cards for release.
My opinion is they took the card down until they have a few more in stock. They did this to both the 580m and 6990m last year because of shortages. I don't think the next gen cards will be released until ivy bridge is ready. Just my 2 cents. I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong though. -
The new 675m is just a renamed 580m, literally the specs are exactly the same, the TDP is the same, they changed nothing and it is the same card.
Dell may have pulled the option because Nvidia has stopped making 580m's and started with the 675m instead, but it really makes no difference to consumers, as they are the same card. Anyway, my point is don't fret if you just bought a 580m, nothing new and exciting is on the horizon for quite a while. -
I ordered the M17x on Feb 8th with the 580m. It was supposed to be delivered today on the 1st of March, but is delayed due to the 580m. How long have you guys been waiting? My new expected delivery is March 8th, but i'm thinking they just move it a week at a time. The case manager left me a voice mail today saying they might not get the cards in stock until March 15th.

I got a pretty crazy deal already for my rig. If it's not here by next week, that's when I'll call and cancel my order. If they want to give me a discount, I may wait another week.

Gone from UK site as well...

my bad luck cant get replacement with GTX 580m
they advice my to go with 6990m but i dont think its capable of GTX 580m. Or have another option for M18x with Dual 6990m with extra £300 but then i have to end up with one HDD :S
-
Are they saying you will never be able to get a 580m? Or is the wait just really long? This is a bit worrisome, I hope they don't stop carrying the 580m or something, if mine dies I really want another Nvidia and not a 6990m.
This really kind of points to Nvidia making the switch to 6xxm though. Word is the GTX680 desktop will launch March 12th. Especially since the 675m is just a renamed 580m it would make sense for Nvidia to launch it the 12th along with the other 6xx cards. It will give them a perceived jump on ATI, with the first "next-gen" mobile cards, even though it will just be renamed versions of current cards. -
I'm not worried about them not being able to replace my 580m if it does in fact go out. If they aren't able to get any more 580m GPUs, then they would have to offer me the nearest nVidia replacement, which would be the equivalent 6xx card. -
Alright now hard to conclude this news as bad or good, as per ive been told that if i want GTX 580m then ive need to wait for next 3 to 5 weeks, additionally he added may be GTX 580m will never come to Alienware systems. Also he added new version of m17x comin with in next approx 3 months with upcomin cards so there will be no option for GTX 580m. so seems its good news but for me its little be bad, cosz i dont wann live without my Alienware for next 3 months and also want to get new version of m17x or m18x.
He gona call me tomorrow again about my decision. ive definitely have to plan somethin how to deal with him and try end up with upcomin versions.
Why youve worry about to replace ur card, even youve still not received your system. I wish your system will be great without any problems in it -
I never said anything about replacing my card. All I implied was the fact that if I ever needed a replacement, it would be an upgrade since they wont be carrying the 580m anymore.
As for your situation, I would go with the m18x with dual 6990m GPU. Dual cards will beat out a single card setup any day. Plus the 6990m is on par with the 580m. I doubt you'd notice much of a difference between the 2 cards. Plus 2x6990m beats the pants off of a single 580m. At this point, I wish I would have opted for the 6990m. -
Interesting, I just configured a system to see what my price diff would have been if I went non 3D and took the 6990.
Well.... if I chose the non 3d screen it didn't give me a GPU option at all. Defaulted to the 6990. -
Yah i know M18x is good deal for me right now, but im so so so curious about up comin generation of Alienware, as per ive got inform it would only take 3 -4 months. I dont think performance will improve more then 20 - 30 % compare to current GP cards, Honestly im so excited about new design of it. Better Display!!!! new experiment with keyboard as it havnt touched from m17x!!!! Ahh lots of XDDDD -
BTW the guys over at Clevo also report that the 580m's have been disappearing from their virtual store shelves. CeBit is around the corner...

ha...yes for sure. Those tricky guys over at nvidia are going to fool a lot of people.
The only good news i hear is that the 680m is a true kepler. Only issue is that we don't know when it will be released (if) -
Probably will be like the 580m's last year. They left it a while so people all bought the 485m's. Chances are Dell, Nvidia and Intel are holding back for the Ivy release to showcase. Remember it was the M18x that first showed off the 580m's in SLi last year. When Ivy comes this June/July, we probably will see some huge marketed M18x revision with 680m's in SLi and a 3920XM CPU with a $200 premium 4Ghz bios tweak.

Actually guys, from seeing all the tech news, the GT 640m as 384 cores like the 580m therefore the 675m has to have much more. I'm guessing the GTX 660m will have something like 448 and the 675m will have 480 or 512 cores. This leaves the 680m to have perhaps 786 cores. Half of the size of the Kepler 680 which has 1536 cores.
All speculation and guess work based on a single fact.
Nvidia GTX580m removed from the M17x Canadian configurator
