I just did a run with 3dmark 11 with the new 280.19 beta verde driver from nvidia. Here is the first result Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2630QM Processor,Alienware M17xR3 score: P3393 3DMarks.

Did a run with 3dmark vantage here is the result: Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2630QM Processor,Alienware M17xR3 score: P14128 3DMarks. Interested to see overclocking results as well as results with amd 6990m benchmarks as well. Let the battle between nvidia and amd begin!!!! Who will win, we shall see soon enough. :D

Indeed. Metro 2033, Crysis 2, or something else that's heavy on the GPU would be a good place to start. 3DMark tends to favor AMD GPU's due to shader performance.

What kind of benchmarks you looking for? And what tools do I use to record results?

You can use FRAPS to record your frame-rates. Use different levels of anti-aliasing and anti-triscopic filtering during your testing. Testing at different resolutions such as 1680x1050 and 1920x1080 will show how the GPU scales at different resolutions. FRAPS will record your minimum and maximum frame-rates so you make an average frame-rate reading.

I am going to run dirt 3 maxed settings @ 1080p and use fraps to see what frames I can get. According to notebookcheck the 580m should get 10 more fps than the 6970m so I will see. ;)

don't use fraps, there's a built in bench tool under graphic options. Set everything on ultra and 4xMSAA and click run the benchmark :)

Ok I just ran the dirt 3 benchamark tool everything maxed 4x msaa got an average of 40fps minimum 17fps. When the benchmark tool was running it would stutter at times, is this normal? It was like every few seconds. Well this is weird ran the benchmark tool 3 more times and it didnt stutter. I hope my video card or hard drive is not going bad. Well now I get average 43 fps and minimum 35fps so a lot better than my first run, just confused about the initial stutter. =(

I get about the same fps with 6970M. I guess Nvidia has to work much harder on that driver...

I'm calling bs, there is no way you can get those same frames with a stock 6970m. You must have it overclocked because if you go to notebookcheck and look at dirt 3 benchmarks for 6970m and 580m you will see at ultra settings the 580m gets 10 more fps, hate to bust your bubble.
