    Edit :

It was discovered that it was a fake  , investigations are ongoing but it will apparently just a guy that would have changed the background image of a driver and some text ... Here are the explanations : Nvidia G-Sync FREE on DP 1.2 Monitors - Page 4

Thanks to ejohnson for the search job

    Hi,

I have found this guy :

Truth about the G-sync Marketing Module (NVIDIA using VESA Adaptive Sync Technology – Freesync) | GAMENAB

He has been working on the gsync things to see how it works, why you need the gsync chip in your screen ... In fact this chip deserve to nothing,it just allow the driver to activate the gsync fonction. So he made his modded driver and it work ! That should work for all nvidia gpu from gtx 6**m to gtx 9**m with an edp screen cable.

All credit to him for his great work !

Let's try and give some feedback !

Just got it installed, running 120hz and a 780m, no gsync option for me.

Looks like its a no go on my end.

Which, if im thinking right, the 120hz screen is a edp, since it plugs into what im pretty sure is the edp on the motherboard as opposed to the 60hz that runs on the lvds port.

Yes i agree the 120 hz should be an eDp display, that's just the begginning, let's see how it come. He is using an asus G751j and a clevo for info.

Same here, that would be fun if they can't do anything, in fact they might need a new firmwire in their Gsync chip :D

I'm sure it's very similar to freesync, but they gave the market a good kick towards it which is nice. I can't feel too hung up about it for that reason.

In that way i agree, BUT the main problem in my eyes is the thing that you need a display with gsync so a new display. Most screen since 2010 should be able to do this since VESA have already implement this. It's an other nvidia "feature" ... it remind me a little the "new iphone feature " aka copy paste ...

highly doubt it. You need the g-sync board to get it to work.

I still don't believe it. Many more companies would be using the tech on their machines if it was that easy to implement.

This wouldn't be the first time someone hacked NVIDIA's drivers to unlock stuff they were purposely locking out. Way back when you needed a "compatible" SLi motherboard aka someone paid NVIDIA royalties to allow them to sell it as SLi the drivers got hacked so you could run SLi on everything that was a certain CPU or higher.

SO looks like no one hacked anything here. a person was having issues with thier laptop, the company that makes it sent him a experimental driver from nvidia... turns out its a driver nvidia sent out to laptop makers to test for mobile gsync.

While it doesnt seem to be working on my 17, that doesnt mean it wont ever work. The driver was for a msi, so alienware may infact come out with one that does work.

Nobody can be sure in this based on nvidia's words. And guess what! DSR is coming to notebooks too... not just in filthy nvidia words.
