Hi everybody,
On my alienware 17, the Intel gpu is disabled, the tech guy at phone told me that's because i have a 3D screen and nvidia optimues doesn't work with this.
My CPU is 4900MQ, and i would like to know if someone here can confirm me this, because this is really strange ??
Is there a way to enabled the intel gpu, to not use the gf 780m all times ?

MickyD1234 Notebook Prophet
Hi there
No way at all, and I tried a lot before I discovered the reason.
The 120hz display is native meaning it cannot do 60hz without a driver. At boot when the machine is tested (POST) no driver is loaded and only NV cards have the microcode to do 120hz in vga compatibility mode. Hence the intel GPU (60hz) is physically disabled and the 120hz display is plugged into a different port.
It makes me so mad that dell do not have this information on the 3d model when purchasing it. You do not have an iGPU and battery life is almost halved.
All I can say is complain bitterly, dell will replace the machine with an optimus (non 3D model) if you need better battery life and would rather have that than 3D, although I prefer not to have the hassle of flaky optimus (floptimus) and love the 3D -
No optimis with 3D sadly
the display is directly connected to the gpu and bypasses the igpu
also the igpu is disabled or probably it cant drive 120hz
either way
we dont have optimus
Nvidia Optimus, 3D Screen and Intel GPU
