downloading this, I'm guessing its mostly the same as the unofficial 301.40

This is posted under "other" of the driver details page:

"Supports DisplayPort 1.2 for GeForce GTX 600-series."

What's this about? Should I flash my 580 to 675 after all? :p

Ok, guys here's a the file you need to install this driver on the M17x (R1) with the 2xx series nVIDIA cards.
Thanks to crzychinook for testing these on the 260M cards too!

    Follow these steps:
    • First of all uninstall your current nVIDIA display drivers.
    • Reboot in Safe Mode (repeatedly press the F8 key after the BIOS prompt and choose Safe Mode)
    • Run your favorite registry cleaner (I personally use CCleaner), backup your registry first just in case and choose to clean your registry to remove any remnants of the old driver (you might need to run it a couple of times until there's nothing to remove).
    • Reboot one more time.
    • Download the 301.42 nVIDIA drivers to your Desktop
    • Double click and let them extract the files in the default directory (C:\NVIDIA)
    • Press Cancel when it starts checking for hardware compatibility
    • Download my attached archive and extract the file
    • Cut/copy it and paste in "C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\301.42\WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver"
    • And replace original file
    • Go back to the "International" folder and run setup.exe
    • Continue performing normal installation steps, choosing Custom(Advanced)>Next>and check Perform a clean installation>Next and at the windows prompt choose Install...anyway
    • Reboot when prompted and voila
    • Don't forget to reenable SLi in nVIDIA Control Panel and reboot your system
    • Enjoy!

    Note for M17x (R1) users:
-Don't forget to turn off PCIe Gen2 in BIOS under Advanced > Graphic Settings.

Please make sure you correctly followed the steps above before asking questions.

Hey guys! Need help.. I have been trying to install the newest 301.42 Nvidia drivers for 2 days now. I followed every step outlined above and eventually managed to update display drivers :) The only problem however is that i cannot re-enable my SLi  ; it simply doesn't work. When I go to the Nvidia User Panel, its just says: SLi Disabled. I've searched a lot of forums and every case I found seem to be very different from mine..I have GTX 280M cards and 9400M G.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello, zoppi, welcome to NBR.
You'll have to choose "Maximize 3D performance" under 3D Settings > Set SLI and PhysX Configuration. Or is the option not available for you?

That's exactly what I have been trying to do..When I choose "Maximize 3D performance" and then "Apply" (obviously) nothing happens..it still appears as "SLI is disabled", even though I rebooted my laptop countless times :(

Can you test a known working version and tell me if you have the same problem?
I'll look into this later and come back to you.

Guys, are you restarting your systems after installing this driver and BEFORE enabling SLi?

Was the BSOD nvidia driver related? Was that with PCie Gen2 enabled?

yeah, it was a driver issue... i dont remember exactly, something nv...something kernel something... the nv(something file) let me know it was nvidia.
and i havent enabled the pcie gen2 in a very long time, even with it enabled, i never blue screened, just locked up when the driver failed and i would have to reboot...
So its just the 300 series drivers, everything works perfectly on the 296 drivers..

    Hello,

I installed these drivers and some features are nice and overall its smooth but today when I was playing Shogun 2 (d11) I got hit with the thermal throttle. I did not have it ever since I repasted with MX-4.

Anyone know if this driver is running the cards hotter?

    Thank You,

katalin, my problems might have something to do with my 280's flashed to 285's. I kinda doubt it, but it might. I cant go back to the 280's because i have miss placed my 280 vbios. I dont think i really want to go back anyway, my r1 has no problems running anything i throw at it, the only drawback so far is i cant use any 300 series drivers... I never used the hybrid sli, always wanted my 280's to do all the work, so i dont see any reason to go back to 280's, unless someone has the vbios set with the same clocks and voltages tyranus used on the 285 vbios.

SlateJones, I have the stock GTX 280M vbios. And an overclocked vbios of the GTX 280M @ GTX 285M speeds. But at stock voltage, never really care on rising the voltage because the overclock is so small. I can provide you that vbios if you want.

Tyranus, if you wouldnt mind posting a link or pm'ing me a link to get the overclocked vbios. As long as i get the same performance as i do now, would be awesome. But i definitely dont want to go back to stock. :)

Similar problem. Ive got a R1 with a gtx 260m. Followed the step word for word and now I cannot switch over from my 9800. I dont have that icon in the task bar for switching into performance mode nor does my Fn+f7 work

    thanks

If this problem cannot be fixed, which driver version do you guys recommend?

    Thanks

I can't run this 301.42 driver either. It crashes on me everyday. I reverted to 296.10 this morning. I have no idea why I can't run this one. I did a clean install and it crashed after a few hours. I removed it, ran driver sweeper in safe mode, and then did another clean install and it crashed once a day. I had added the hack to make the HDMI input work with my machine and this morning it was on a 800X600 login screen reporting that it had recovered from a serious error. Hopefully 296.10 will put my machine back to rock solid like it was before.

Read above,it's been a while since hybrid SLi is no longer supported, same goes with this driver and newer. That means no Fn+F7 switching.

    Yes, in BIOS

ok thanks. So just to clarify...

First of all uninstall your current nVIDIA display drivers.
Reboot in Safe Mode (repeatedly press the F8 key after the BIOS prompt and choose Safe Mode)
Run your favorite registry cleaner (I personally use CCleaner), backup your registry first just in case and choose to clean your registry to remove any remnants of the old driver (you might need to run it a couple of times until there's nothing to remove).
    Reboot one more time.
Disable hybrid SLi in your BIOS and also disable the 9400
Download the 301.42 nVIDIA drivers to your Desktop(or wherever you want)
Double click and let them extract the files in the default directory (C:\NVIDIA)
Press Cancel when it starts checking for hardware compatibility
Download my attached archive and extract the file
Cut/copy it and paste in "C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\301.42\WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver"
    And replace original file
Go back to the "International" folder and run setup.exe
Continue performing normal installation steps, choosing Custom(Advanced)>Next>and check Perform a clean installation>Next and at the windows prompt choose Install...anyway
    Reboot when prompted and voila
Don't forget to reenable SLi in nVIDIA Control Panel and reboot your system
    Enjoy!

    Correct?
    Thanks Guys, much appreciated!

    Nope....

After the installation and re-enabling the Integrated and Hybrid along with the PCIe Gen2, i am no longer running on neither of the cards.

    The dxdiag tells me this:

    Display
    Name: Standard VGA Graphics Adapter
    Manufacturer: (Standard display types)
    Chip Type: NVIDIA
    DAC Type: 8 bit
    .
    .
    .

Any idea's as to whats going on?
    Thanks

So I've been using this driver since my last post... It is by FAR the best driver I've ever used on here - the ONLY issue I have with it is that when I try to alt-tab out of a game to do something else I have no mouse. Not the end of the world. Outside of that, this one is a keeper - great performance, no BSOD, and temps are right around where they should be.

Learn to read - hybrid SLi has not been supported for quite some time now and you are supposed to leave Gen2 off because it causes issues with our systems. As for the 9400 - why use it at all? Its only good when you're on battery power otherwise its just burning up the chipset and raising temperatures.

I uninstalled the driver completely> ran driver sweeper> restarted pc> disabled intergrated, hybrid, and PCIe Gen2> booted into safe mode> cleaned registry using ccleaner> rebooted and installed driver as a clean install.> restart and re-enabled integrated and hybrid

    Am I missing anything?

Even when I disable it now, still does not fix anything.
Ill try to install it one more time.

    Thanks for the help

Do i re-enable hybrid and 9800 after the installation is complete?

    Thanks

You'll probably have to redo the entire process. Uninstall, disable hybrid SLi and 9400 plus Gen2 when you go to reboot to safe mode, run CCleaner until it cleans out everything (it took 3 times on my computer), reboot, extract installer but make sure to keep clicking cancel when it is checking compatibility, replace the ini file, then run setup, install, reboot and youre good to go.

EDIT: No, do not re-enable those - do not enter the BIOS again after installing the driver.

    No problem :)

So I fell asleep with a game running tonight... it would normally have overheated and crashed but even with forced SLi (which I have never been able to make it work before with Reel Deal Live) my system stayed stable during my 6 hour nap and it also picked up right where it left off without a hiccup. These drivers get a huge highly recommended seal of approval from me!

Anyone else care to share their experiences thus far?

I updated to 301.42 after trying 296.10. Both seems problematic? For My original 285.62 driver, my gpu stayed between 50-56, but now for both 301 and 296, my gpu temperature raises to 60 and the speeding up fan keeps it there. But the fan keeps speeding up and down to maintain at 60, it's annoying and unlike 285 which kept my r3, 580M at dead silent level..

Anyone know the cause of this? Perhaps something other than the driver? Help!

edit: after a quick run of blades of time...the game lags(throttles?) even at the starting menu..It's a game I played on my 285 driver with a graphics cranked up that all i can crank. screw this, i'm back to 285.62 .

301 series drivers don't support WDDM 1.2 so you might have some crashes or freezes. I'll work on modding the INF for the 302 beta that came out.

As for this driver... After running it for awhile I have noticed the lag too - I ran HWMonitor and its hitting 107C and then throttling so I guess I will try 285.62 myself if that's the recommended pre-30x driver.

EDIT: Scratch the 302 beta - it is still running old developer code - won't work on Release Preview but will on Consumer Preview.

hey I installed the 302. drivers from laptopvideo to go but it took a lot of modding. but it installed fine but I had to basically copy and paste my inf from the 280 which is the only driver that installed without a hitch on the win8rp. however am now having some random freezes. I don't know how to get around it apart from installing the 280 but then I wont be able to play any new games. any help

I was hoping someone with an R1 would pop in - its doing it in VLC too. It does it in gaming as well if I turn off vsync in that game. I wonder if it isn't running even in 2D mode with vsync disabled? It wouldn't really affect 120hz panels but the M17x technically has a 59hz panel.

I tried these not long after they came out, but found that my frame rates in Second Life, Star Trek Online, and WoW were worse. I went back to 296.88.

No I have had that turned off since 2010, even just double checked.

It would be sad to have to ditch these drivers because they are blistering fast... I play an online slots MMO that launches at Windows start up and just by installing these drivers my load time went down from 13 seconds for the launcher to appear to 3. Scrolling is immensely increased and general performance just seems completely great. I just have a feeling it is turning system-wide vsync off for 2D.

To update, I fixed my issue. I forced global adaptive vsync in nVidia's control panel. No more tearing and everything is still smooth as butter.

A great big thank you unhip. Been fighting with my 17x r-1 for months on how to get sli to work smoothly, and once I read all the details its was a snap getting this driver to work with your archive.

Much improved fps on almost every game I'm playing at the moment with smoother transitions between screens.

Before this post I thought I was going to be stuck on driver 256 whatever that came with the laptop till it died due to Nvidia being jerks officially.

(I never used the 9400 anyways so no big loss.)

    Hey guys,
I'm in the need of some help here.
So i followed the exact steps that Katalin_2003 said and my driver got installed correctly, however i'm not able to reenable SLi in NVIDIA control panel.
There is no tab at all.

    Any help please.
    I have a m17x R1
Already tried to reinstall the driver, didn't work.

Hybrid Graphics isn't supported anymore. If in your bios both hybrid and integrated graphics are enabled, the drivers will use the 9400. disable both options and only your discrete card(s) will be avialable and in my case the option is available.

Btw I use the 304.48 beta ones in the mean time.
