As the title says. If you are using 'Experience then you might have the same problem I did.

It informed me of the new driver but crashed every time I started it so I though just re-install t. Then it got a bit weird. The installer said I had a later version installed? I did indeed have 2.2.2.2 and the current version is 2.2.2.0. Both had the same jan 22 date?

Anyhow, I just uninstalled it and reinstalled from the NV site and all went well. My settings were retained - finally! Download and express install of the driver (after unloading afterburner) went smooth and no reboot required.

First quick bench in Heaven 4 was identical to the last driver and it held my 1006mhz overclock fine.

Most changes seem to be aimed at the 9xx cards so if you have one of these definitely worth a try?

I'll post if any issues arise during my testing.

    Good Luck

After a full barrage of in-game benches my results were that I got 1 or 2 FPS increase. BUT, this is the first driver that has allowed me to keep the 1006mhz overclock on everything. So for me a more stable driver :D

Maxwell mobile is a no-go... another piece of crap driver with overclocking blocked for Maxwell. Seems to work fine with my 780M SLI.

    For cross-reference...

Update on experience crashing. It is widespread so just follow my lead in the first post.

    Happy days.

@mr fox, I'll be adding over there soon as well ;)

So NV admit the lack of overclocking is to protect customers and is a design feature of mobile cards: https://forums.geforce.com/default/...king-with-347-09-347-25/post/4458903/#4458903
Just shaking my head, I can't take any more of this 'nanny' crap telling me what is good for me. Have a go at Manuel guys, he is a dick anyway and I already have 'history' with him :grr:

Just too funny, it it wasn't so true:

I just had a quick chat with a friend who works in corporate law and liabillity. It appears NV are open to liability for damages. Ever since Experience started to update notebooks without any warning (that a manual download gives) an inexperienced user could overclock and burn his machine out - theory of course...

Wow guys, that's not fair from NV.. wth! Desktop user are able to clock the hell out of 9xx cards...yet, they are safe....are we? why shouldn't be an option on equivalent mobile component, i fail to understand.....

yeah, I have a theory. Dell complained to NV that their crippled driver was being replaced by the NV one by GF experience automatically (if the user sets it up that way). They threaten them with legal action if they do not stop as their new machine will be 'out of spec' if it is overclocked. Lawyers check and although the verde program is very clear that NV recommend you stay with the OEM driver, GFE has no such warning.

Dell do not want the new models overclocked, it will further mess with the battery unless a better PSU is provided?

    Sound possible?

This downward trend of gaming on a laptop in general has started to make me hate even thinking about upgrading from my r3. Looking more and more tempting to just grab a 680m and a 2920xm and call it a day for another couple years. This latest Nvidia fiasco is just icing on the cake.

Edit: and micky let me know how you enjoy that new machine!! and no i'm not being sarcastic. :p

Sure thing man. I've had a few people asking so I'm going to try to do a bit better than just 'it's great' or not.

Poor choice of avi right now dude, haha

Yea I'm kinda stuck myself. Gotta leave for the month of may for training and was planning on picking up a new machine to enjoy the witcher 3 on when I was gone. Not sure what I'm gonna do now. :(

Edit: If they are starting to do this on the laptop side of things, its scary to me because they could easily use that same logic on the desktop side of things as well. Curious to see how AMD responds.

Depends on their m chip driver update process IMO. Since dell are not using them ATM they may be safe from threats of legal action?

I hope they release the fixed drivers, which enables overclocking on GTX 900m series soon. I am getting my GTX 980m later on today...

Me too, mine should arrive some time next week. We can still use the 'bugged' version (needs posting, I'm not sure of it) and use GF experience to just update game and Sli profiles and leave the driver alone, so it's not a complete disaster, yet!

I never use Geforce Experience to update the driver anyway, so it's not a great loss. I really hope nvidia comes to their senses with the next driver update.

Yeah, this is to protect all the dummies from their own stupidity. Analogy: sell bullets and you're responsible for any accident that occurs. This is the lawyers logical conclusion. Lots of money to be made for them.

I use GFE for all my game lunches in one place. And I can see all the in-game settings for comparison. I only check profiles updates.

My GFE crashes when updating, however a restart later and it updated fine.

    MickyD1234 moving away from alienware!??

NV claim (or rather hinted) is fixed, so try a restart and see if GFE opens up, others have said it worked for them.

I tried really hard to remain in the fold, even ordered a new R2, but alas my hopes where dashed and I was forced to look elsewhere. I'll be keeping my R4 to legitimise my future posts in here ;). I'm not going away just yet, until I come across a community that welcomed me as much as these AW ones did/do.

Must read posts more carefully, I got rattled this morning over in the NV forums...

just wish AMD would release a decent mobile card again so stuff like this wouldn't happen. Hasn't been good competition since the 7970m/680m days. :(
