Well I am trying not to get too excited. I have waited a long time with a dormant synapse installed along the slow stock HD I have in the alienware. Eventually the new dataplex software came out. So I finally installed it. Don't mind admitting I was bricking it after reading some of the problems.

So I did the reboot and let system settle for 10 mins and shut down. A few minutes later powered on and crossed my fingers. All I can say is wow! My cold boot normally took about 2 mins to a usable desktop which included a painful 20 second wait at the 'welcome' screen. Well I honestly did not have chance to react or time it. I reckon now less than 30 secs from cold boot and on the internet. So pleased. iTunes and IE explorer loads instantly. Excellent stuff and noticed no excessive CPU usage which I was concerned about. I tried another shutdown after leaving windows idle for about 30 minutes and then rebooted from cold start. Again less than 30 seconds to browsing. Ok, it's only 2 boots and have loads to test and see how it goes but am real happy at the minute!

What an easy way to upgrade to near SSD speeds without reinstalling windows and doing all the tweaks. In some ways it maybe better than having a boot SSD as the caching works across my whole drive for stuff I use regulary. Although a boot SSD is obviously still preferred I am very pleased with this - so far!

Performance will definitely increase over time so I reckon it is a good purchase :) Congrats.

Yeah, for regular users who like their 750GB HDD, a Synapse is an easy upgrade. It is hard to justify reinstalling your OS, having to manage SSD space (which can be hard if your SSD is 128GB or smaller), and SSD optimization; when you can buy a caching drive and get most of the benifits without all the hard work.
