Any guides out there on how to OC the i5?

I am a noob on the new processors. Had my old p8600 OCed to 3.0.

Also, I'm really confusedon the turbo feature. As I understand it, it only turbos one core, not both. Anyway to change this?

If I OC the i5 should I disable turbo mode?

Thanks for the help and sorry if this has been posted.

    Cheers ;)

I haven't tried it yet. At work currently. Will try it out tonight but I really want to find something geared towards the i5 specifically before I start just changing numbers ;)

it is very easy to do it using setfsb i got my i5 540m to over 4ghz stable. here is the thread, where it is plotted out. if you need help with it pm me
Edit: i know it says "920/940" but the same principle applies. if you read through the benchmarking thread or click on he links in my sig for my 3d mark scores, you will see that i overclocked the crap out of my i5. also don't bother using the slider it will cause system crash, you need to individually change the parameters so its stable. make sure you use some really good cooling methods, i wouldn't take the bclk over 150 with stock cooling.

Hey cleverpseudonym, I could use some help overclocking my i5 520M.

Basically, I have no idea what I'm doing. I've tried reading through that thread you linked but it all went completely over my head and there isn't a readme file included with setfsb that explains anything, so I'm pretty lost. I could really use some step-by-step explanation for doing this because I'm afraid I'll royally screw something up if I just started messing around with setfsb without knowing what any of it means. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I would have just PMed you, but you apparently need 5 "quality posts" before you can start using PMs on this forum.

    Specs:
    model: Sony VAIO VPCEB1LFX
    Intel i5 520M @2.4Ghz
    Mobility Radeon 5650 1GB
    4GB DDR3 RAM
    Windows 7 64-bit

the same pll will not work on your Sony machine. the thread is for Alienware machines. while i could likely figure it out for you, i am not interested in killing your machine. they are not made for overclocking, i doubt that the engineers considered it while designing the cooling system on it.

SetFSB works with the i5 520. I pumped out some great benchmarks with it in the M17x R2.

Whats a good setting to OC the 520M at for daily use?

My old R1, I had the P8600 OCed to 3Ghz permanently via BIOS and never had any issues.

I'd like a real n00b guide to this, but is it really worth it...

my i5 520m seems to be adequate enough

Wow guys, I did overclock my i5-520 on my m17x-r2 using the m17x-r2 overclocking guide and it is remarkable. It turbo boosts to 3.6GHz at 1thread and runs 3.3GHz at 4threads with prime95 and it is stable!. The performance is just remarkable. it is just 65C at full load! This is just insane.
I did cinebench, at it beats, 720qm and 820qm in both multi and single cpu test by 600score differences.

    Cinebench r10: 3956 single, 8092 multi
