Can you access CCC at all (ie right-click desktop)?
-
-
No I have no CCC now. Did I install in the wrong order? I installed the ccc and display driver first. That didnt get me the CCC so I then installed the complete suite. Then it asked me for a restart and I did that and still no CCC. Am frustrated.
-
I would uninstall everything ATI related, and do it via the CP --> Programs and features.
Optionally, you can use driver cleaner/sweeper.
While doing all of this make sure you reboot if the system asks.
Then download the 10.3 betas if you can find them (I say this because no one had issues with the beta but some ppl are having issues with the official release).
Let me know if this works, -
It only downloadsthe ati download manager. However when I download the ati driver of the first post in this thread it installs everything the ccc and display drivers. What a pain. So I have the old display driver and am unable to download the new ones.

-
Nyone have a free program that will rid my pc of all ati drivers so I can reinstall the new 10.3? Or am I going about this all wrong? Wish I could get this figured lol. Anyone???
-
Anyone have any discount codes or coupons,or something to get a discount on a new M17? I'm about to pull the trigger
Thanks..
-
Will do it now (I have the beta drivers) and report if there are any problems -
Just select the express as seen on the pic and click next. Accept the license agreement, let the installation finish, enter the CCC and look for the driver version ! Enjoy.

Do you really plan to keep it that long? I'll be ditching my system next year when SB hits. -

Hello all!
I noticed some of you re-install your Win7 after you get your M17x-R2. Why is that? Should I consider doing this?
I had trouble installing the 10.3 Catalyst also. It installed the updated Catalyst but not the driver? Win also wouldnt let me turn off the flipping auto driver install option. No gpedit.msc? Typed it in. Nothing. Strange. Im still working on it. -
From on of my other posts;
There is a quicker way, and you do not need to reinstall everything. The best part is, if your not happy with the result, then do a reinstall of the OS. Try it out, pcdecrapifier, it's not a joke. I said it many times. I have use this software, and have done fresh installs, no difference what so ever, except the time and frustration doing a fresh install. And no I have no connection to this software, I heard about it a few years ago from Leo Leport on Tech TV. Besides, these laptops are awesome systems, Alienware does not put a bunch of bloatware on their systems in the first place. That's one of the main reasons I am getting one over Asus.

it's a good practice to install the OS from scratch when you get your lappy.
This way you know exactly how it's installed, which drivers and programs are on it and so on.
True that AW comes with almost no bloat but i feel safer when i'm the one installing the OS -
Same here. It gives you a nice sense of control and organization. For example go to msconfig and see how many programs load on startup. I have 6. Before a fresh install I had like 14.
-
I agree with fresh installs too, nothing like a fresh os, most companys load up thier rigs with tons of crap. But sometimes there is no reason, besides like I said , if you try it my way, you could be playing on your lappy, rather than hunting down drivers, software ext. Think about it you'll spend alittle extra time before you do your fresh install. Try it out, I would like to hear what some one else thinks. Just my two cents.
Side note: I always install fresh video and sound drivers either way I go. -
And Windows 7's Anytime Upgrade from Home Premium to Ultimate (just give it the Ultimate key) was friggin awesome!
I've rebuilt my systems enough in the past 2 months, don't need to mess with my lappy -
hi, anyone has this problem?
after i install the 10.3 ATI Mobility, and it run flawless, until when i turn off the crossfirex and i shut down my computer. When i turn it on this morning, my windows start but i have blank screen. And then i run 'start windows with the last known good configuration' and it run smoothly since it run in crossfire. What seems to be the problem here. Because before i upgrade mine to 10.3, i can turn crossfire on and off without any problem. -
Finally got 10.3 to work. I couldnt find the file it was downloading to. So I tried to install again then when it showed me the file where it was going to save to, I saw it was already there so I opened it. It started installing the ccc and everythingelse. I checked and I now have the correct version. What a pain in the.....

congrats trd1

Actually I can add the second 4870, crossfire cable and just add the driver and then I will be set
. But thnks guys. I prefer single card solution so the 5870 would be perfect for me but I havnt heard much on that front latley.

I am starting to think if the 5870m was coming to the M17x we would have heard by now....multiple sources hinted that it would be announed/available by now and we got nothing
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
I think it's inevitable the problem is it isn't a big deal to Dell and they are in no rush to get this card out considering how well the R2 is selling with 4870's.
Supply may also be an overlaying factor. -
Anyone want to trade there second card for a PS3?
Although I have geen waiting for a million years for gran turismo 5.
-
-
You might as well wait for the 5870s. -
Actuall the games I play dont require CF. I really like this laptop with the single card so I should just be happy. I have a bad habit of buying things I will never use just know I have that power lol. My car has 500 plus HP yet Idrive it like a granny on the weekends. I get on it once in a while but dont drive the hell out of it like I should. Normally I just drive my truck. Wasted money sittin in the garage lol. Im sure you all know what this is like. Bench mark guys that dont realy play games? Lol. Its a guy thing.

Would a faulty Ethernet Port cause yourself to Disconnect from the internet at random? Just asking cause I just finally fixed my modem cause its been down and now STILL i keep getting Disconnected randomly, from the net...
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
most likley an issue with the network connection itself (brownouts maybe?) or the network hardware
-
Actually, it could even be the port itself or the cable. Try changing the cable or checking the cable with another PC.
Also check another PC with your modem.
On a software level, there could be a power saving scheme enabled. Check the Device Manager->Network Adapters-> your_adapter-properties->Advanced-(look for some power saving settings, like "device sleep on disconnect" etc and disable them all.) -
So it seems I'll shortly become an M17X R2 owner, without having to spend a penny. My Dell XPS m1730 with SLI'd 8800m GTX decided to cook it's own videocards, and Dell hasn't had any replacements in stock since November, so they're giving me a brand new Alienware in exchange!
(Long live 3 year warranty, I plan to refresh the warranty on the new system)
After much negociating, here's what I'm getting in exchange for the old system :
i7 720, 4870s in Crossfire, 4gb 1033, 250gb HD, 1920X1200 RGB LED, Bluray reader. Pretty happy overall
Reading this entire thread has me concerned though. The 8800m GTX's were a nightmare originally for drivers, and now it seems the 4870s have similar issues. Hopefully the system comes without any hardware problems as well.
How long's the average wait for Dell to send out one of these replacements in Canada? I've been waiting a week so far, and they quoted me 3 weeks.
If I can get a good cycle of overheating and refreshing insurance going, my initial 3.5k$ investment on the XPS could become a subscription to a laptop renewal program! -
People wait 4-5 weeks in average. Welcome to the club!
-
@Rokgar
Their 3 year warranty is one of the best things Dell can offer and the only reason I went with them in the first place.
Enjoy the upgrade. If my(and a few others on this forum) R1->R2 replacement is of any indication, you should get your system in 3 weeks.
You'd wait longer with a fresh purchase as Mfractal stated. -

Congrats! -
i am also soon to be joining the R2 ranks
i got my system replacement for my 1730 being built at the moment too!!
core i7 620m, 4gb 1333 ram, 320gb HDD, 4870 in CF
they dont offer blu ray in the uk which is a bit stupid and when they placed the order they didnt offer RGBLED in the uk either... so im stuck with a ccfl screenall in all though i think im getting a good system!
one thing i will ask tho, the i7 620m is priced higher than the 720m. dose it actually out preform it?
