I once got rid of a brand new car because of a whistle noise coming from the windshield... the dealership couldnt fix it... it drove me nutz....

come to think of it, i also sold my Yamaha R1 because of a ticking sound from the valves... that dealer tried like heck to fix it, even sent in a Yamaha tech, but no one could fix it....

i'd cry if my AW went that route :(

i hear the eeeee too.. even when scrolling through web browsers. the moment i scroll, there will be a eee and it goes away when i stop. same when the gpu is underload(games etc) its the same with the r1. dont see why you say its the intel board that does it..

anyway, can anyone who lives in a warmer country(i live in singapore) tell me what their cpu temps are like?

this is an ss of my cpu temp. look at the max.. it doesnt look right. the current temps are at idle.

the max cpu temps are probably when i was playing splinter cell conviction. my r1's qx9300 oced to 3.3 only goes up to 80 max so i dont know if theres something wrong with this system.

its only oced 2% but the temps are the same even without oc

If you read my post carefully on the previous page, you'll notice that I made a point of distinguishing the 3 different noises that come out my machine.

The eeee you are talking about looks pretty much like the GPU's coil noise, which can be replicated by scrolling web or pdf pages.

    There's also the CPU whine.

Then, there's this kind of transistored eeeeeeeeee, which is contstantly there, as soon as the machine is powered on; actually, as soon as the machine has an A/C adapter connected to it, even if it's not even powered on.

Again, if you read my previous post, you'll notice that I stated I had my mobo (motherboard) exchanged because of that noise which gave me headaches, so I had two Intel mobo, and both make that noise, while my previous M17X-r1 (which had an NVidia chipset compare to Intel) did NOT make that sound, thus, me saying that it looks like all Intel boards (for the M17X obviously) are "pitching" this sound...

Now, I sincerely wish I was as old as Joker so I wouldn't hear that sound; unfortunately, I am older than him, but not quite sure, gotta ask mom, she knows better than me.... :D

so my cpu too hot? should i send it back or ask for some tech service? its still within the 21 day return i think. but its a replacement so i dont know if the 21 day policy applies.do they send techs to apply thermal paste?

mr fractal has a different cpu so im not sure if i should expect mine to not go above 75.. any 920xm people can give some opinions?

    rubyboy79,

I noticed the same thing with mine. Spoke with several folks at Alienware - including an actual engineer. Temps in the 90-93C range are normal when this particular system is stressed to its limits (Prime95, Orthos Prime, etc.)

I know it sounds very wierd, but apparently the iCore Extreme chips all run extremely hot in this chassis.

Not yet. I haven't tried because I would think if it doesn't work with A04 why would it work with A02. Trying to gather more info before making more changes.

Maybe thats why they kept the release as late as this. Hopefully someone can clear this up. Do you mean that everything displayed is distorted? I know its useless calling tech support but have you tried :p I am sure you will find out why soon enough.

    Finally! Mine in yesterday :D

Too bad they shipped it with the wrong powercord and the wrong keyboard (layout)...

Otherwise this machine is pretty awesome. It is huge too, and I love it! It is also quite heavy, but in a good way. Nothing new to all current owners, but with the M17x seeing(and feeling) is believing.

Now on to setting it up for my work and games...

Intel VT is not an option to enable in the bios. That allows 64bit VMs. 32bit VMs should run fine.

While that sounds like no problem I need to make sure I have 2 enviroments now that are in sync where if this had those options already I nwouldent need to go through all that extra.

I honestly dont see how something as basic as this can be overlooked and would appreciate a ETA.

Rough ETA is mid to late May, but this is just an ETA and I can't guarantee delivery by this date. I'll keep pushing on the BIOS team about this though as I have a few escalations on the feature not working properly.

    Thanks,
    Brian

So, lets see, A02 is on the downloads, A03 would be next in line and THIS a04 would be "the one after the next release".......lesson learned eh ?

this might sound weird but my r2 boots slower than my r1.. its fine from bios to the windows logo but after the logo a black screen shows then my mouse is there but it takes quite a while before the logon screen appears and after i key in my password, it takes about 20 seconds before it switches to my desktop and then the icons and apps slowly load..

on my r1 the logon screen comes almost instantly after the windows logo and desktop and apps load almost instantly after password is keyed in..

same number of startup apps and same hdd speed of 7200rpm both defragmented. any ideas why my r2 boots so slowly?

Its probably something its loading in the background such as CC ect for the lights.. I have seen this happen before and after fresh install, had no issues.

*edit you posted before I did.**

Thats interesting.. Disable CC and some the dell programs and see if it speeds up. Antivirus? Windows defender?

thats the thing.. i dont want the disable stuff to speed it up. i dont understand why the r2 boots slower than my r1 with all the same background programs except for drivers. i expect it to at least be the same

im thinking it could be a driver that is causing the slow boot time.

even when the system came with the default factory image, it literally took ages to boot

    Here is an easy question,

For those of you using an external monitor, do you see one of your cards clock-up when the external monitor is plugged in? Or do both cards stay at 250 clocks?

Whenever I plug an external monitor, or hook it up to my HDTV one cards shoots up to 550.

Just curious as I haven't noticed that before.
