As long as you return it in 21 days your good, even if you use it. When I returned mine, the CS person told me I had 30days, I played it safe and returned it after a week sitting unopened on my kitchen table. I did not want to get attached to it :)

Dell has great Customer Service I think.

They don't have a proper W7 version and the Vista one screwed up my icons, had to use Stardock to revert back to W7 stock theme.

Yeah, I wouldn't try those modding programs on my main OS. I do have it installed on my XP VM, and it looks pretty sweet (not the Breed theme).

Pretty much though you've got the 5870 so maybe just go with the Dell drivers for the video card.

Mine will probably get here as I'm headed home on leave, so actually playing with it will be about 2 months. Either way, I'm looking forward to see some benchmarks. Going to see how low I can get the boot time on X-25M RAID 0.

So when I follow the owners manual guide to repairing the computer, the repairer option sites not appear at the specified menu.

How can I do a factory reset?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I just ordered my M17x and I might be buying a Intel 160gb SSD from a forum member. Would this be a difficult swap? Also for the ram I'm going to guess it's just 2 2gb and not 1 4gb? I would greatly appreciate any input/advice thanks!

The swap is very easy, just release 2 screws on the back and you're there ;) Though, I'd probably wait a month-two before getting an SSD, as the Gen.3 is gonna be here in June-July.

It appears the M17x is the coolest running 5870m laptop around. I haven't even seen Sagers run that cool. Have you tried running furmark? I'd like to see where it tops off.

I think it's time for me to call again about my busted BR drive. It's been a week and no email. Doh.

Since a tech is coming out anyway I wonder if I should ask them to replace one of the fans. It rattles sometimes but not all the time.

Also, should I trust whoever they send to properly replace the BR drive?

I probably should have just tried to get a replacement last week when the drive went splat. Ugh.

    Just fryin' some bacon.

I was surprised with the GPU only loaded.

I'm afraid, almost; to fire up prime95 alongside it.

    /150 Watt

Hot, even had some chipset throttling. Had to lock the clocks at stock, or the GPU throttled as well. That was with the 150 watt adapter. Max GPU temp was 97.

    /240 Watt

A little hotter, Max was 98.5. Did not have to lock the GPU clock, and the cpu did not throttle.

It'll be interesting to see if there is throttling with the CF 5870's.
