Thank you kind sir

seems to fix the power button + HDD lights not working on fresh boot...
Woo-hoo -
-
Take note however that it might cause another problem though (who said this was to be easy...), since it may hang your lappy on cold boot, meaning, you press the power button, it's like acting normal, however, you shall soon see the number lock & caps lock buttons lit (which they are not supposed to) and, at the same time, the scroll lock button flashing, NO DISPLAY, than, if you press the power button, fans start freaking, and your lappy will never boot from there.
I tried to fix this by going: unplug -> remove battery -> press power button 20 secs to drain -> put battery back -> plug a/c back -> press power button and it boots...
BUT, it seems like it needs to be done everytime you cold boot (not restart). Last thing I've tried is when fans freak and scroll lock button flashes, I pressed the power button for ±7 seconds to shut it off, without unplugging neihter removing battery...
I am on A02 BIOS by the way...
Will report back. -
ok, thanks for the heads up, not going to even try to install it then.
Why can't they get CC right lately ? It's the second faulty release. -
Oh well, pressing power button for ±7 seconds worked only once...
However, just unplug the a/c adapter and remove the battery seems to do the trick, meaning, no need to press the power button for 20 secs to drain, still, this is more than annoying, hard to do a good job the first time @ Dellianware it seems...
Dell/Alienware: can you guys please get back to your drawing boards and fix this once for all, PLEASE AND THANKS !!! -
Their testing team (and given all this data, it becomes questionable whether it actually exists) does very sloppy job. It looks like someone just powers up the laptop, says "It works." and moves on.
Btw, what is "cold boot"? -
Main difference is a cold boot (shut down completely, then restart) always flush disk's data cache, while a warm boot (restart from within windows), well, actually, you never know !
On this subject however, I did notice that, by opposition to any computer I previously owned, including my R1 flavor, the R2 seems to really shut down the lappy even when I click restart within windows because, it takes ± 2 ~ 3 seconds before the system powers-up (BIOS screen) after it has shut down (hear even the fans shutting down), while any other computer I've owned would simply really restart, no delay between the blank screen and the BIOS one... -
Thanks eYe-I-aïe...!
Now knowing this I have to re-read your post. -
Please do, it's completely free !!! -
I posted this on another tread, Dell is replacing my left speaker, it has a green tint to it no matter what color I choose. I took a picture incase anyone else has this issue with their lights. Dell will send a tech out to fix it, no biggy. I picked yellow for the picture so it would show up better.

I had an issue like that on my m11x in the center ALIENWARE logo,I attribute it to one of the LEDs not firing / being defective. In my case it was resolved on its own after a few days and no Dell intervention was required.

just serviced my comp in Brazil, both GPU fans were replaced by me, i was afraid to let the tech touch it after the horror stories i read here,so the tech was sitting next to me and watching (he told me this machine costs 15000R$, more or less 7.500USD in Brazil, WTH??)
I got to say, i wasn't expecting this level of professionalism. Called yesterday at lunch to complain about the fans making noise, today the tech came. Left me with the service manual for Dell techs - much more detailed than the service manual which is nice, he also left the old fans to me as a backup.
All in all i am very happy with the service. -
A question about graphics performance - so I got my M17 up and running the other night and promptly loaded up COD4, Modern Warfare. It runs great and comfortably with settings at or near max (I didn't try to max everything out). So last night I loaded up World at War which as far as I'm aware runs on the same engine that MW does. It stuttered and chopped pretty badly even after I ramped the settings down a bit, any thoughts? Someone suggested that I disable Crossfire when playing these games, is that really necessary?

and delete all fragments of ATI CCC and re-do the install? Back up your registry first to be safe.
-
Does the R2 with ATI graphics still allow you to switch to the integrated graphics to conserve battery life?
-
-
Nevermind.

-
looks like the m15x or m17x Ripley design
-
-
Theres an Alienware logo in the top right corner too. Definitely not an accident.
-
mfractal, I started watching it a few days ago, and havin been watching it for the last 8 hours since it's my day off. Awesome show! -
Just got mine, moved the 500G drive to drive 1 and my new 160G Intel G2 ssd to drive 0. My plan is to wipe the 500G. Anyone know if I can just kill the partition? Do I need the recovery partition there? I'll bet I cannot get back to it now it's drive 1 and not 0. And, a word to the wise:
The caddies are different for 1 and 0. You cannot just swap the caddies.
The little SATA dongle must be on the drive before you put the metal cover back in it.

I was watching UFC a few weeks ago, and one of the fighters had a huge alienware logo on his butt. It was quite a paradox if you ask me
-
What were you doing staring at his butt? -
-
-
How did the All Powerfull M17X-R2 thread went from its topic to staring a peoples butts?
-
Frequently, my media buttons become unresponsive. Anyway easy way to fix it?
-
Mine boots up to a blank windows screen.. no matter how many times i reboot but it works in safe mode.. didnt install any new video drivers
-
-
I'm almost positive it was because of some error when installing 10.5. Safe mode won't let you change those drivers, at least they didn't for me, so I did a full reinstall of Windows. I couldn't uninstall the drivers or CCC in safe mode, and couldn't install 10.3 or 10.4 either.
Works fine now after a system wipe.
I hope you find an answer before resorting to a system wipe however. -
Btw season 3 rocks!

The alienware was an Area-51 m17x Ripley Silver in that show (at least is my best guess)
As for the UFC fight, there was an alienware email mentioning their sponsoring

I dunno, I'm not sure how many AW owners watch UFC. I kinda just imagine them all to be snot nosed little kids
Wrong of me to generalize though
-
pretty bad assumption, imo, considering the money it costs to own one....but that's the same impression( or mental image) i get when i imagine a person that owns an Asus =p
Fwiw,im 31, have 4 kids, own my own business now, and have been a huge MMA fan since 98, so much so that i paid $2k for 4 years to train with the Graices in Torrence. -
-
We need the Random Alienware Thread back badly... -
Dong Hyun Kim VS Amir Sadollah will probably be the best fight on the card,it might be a prelim though i can't remember...littel nog is fighting too should be a decent card -
Sup guys! Does anyone have an idea what 1 year advanced would cost for the M17x? I´m talking about extending 1 year
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Adding a year cost alot more than upgrading one year from normal to advanced, so do specify
-
I think I´m getting the M17x instead of this M15x (sending this one back). And I got a quote with 1 year advanced, so that´s included. So my question was how much it would be to add a year lets say at christmas for example, 1 year advanced ofc
.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I think it is around $150ish - don't quote me on that
for some retarded reason dell's website is broken where you would purchase a further warranty for your machine -
Yeah I know! Tried to look it up on this computer but couldn´t do it :S. But I would guess something like that too. The rep said it was like a little bit about $100 but I´m not so sure about that!
