Well, Jokers have a "home made, specially designed for his Laptop" BIOS made by Alienware... so the one they just released isn't exactly what Joker have...

So it seems they were not able to reproduce what worked on Jokers computer

It seems that Joker is the only one who has had the issue resolved.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=464213

I don't think there is a way to verify that its even the same bios on his current rx2 as the on that was just released on dells website.

No not really. I returned it because it came with a broken optical drive, defective wireless card, and burnt out fan. IAnd when the tech came to replace the parts, dell had sent all the wrong stuff except for the optical drive. and it took a month just to get that. So I returned it because Dell has crappy QC and Customer Care. I could have waited for the update if it was just the flickering.

No, it seems only one person has complained it has not fixed the problem. No one else has reported any problems yet. I am fine on my end with it and others have said they are fine.

I had a 820 with my first R2 which had no flickering issues, so to say that yours is resolved with the bios doesn't necessarily mean that it fixed it since you also have an 820, unless that is you suffered flickering with the previous bios.

I completely agree that it seems the one person who had issues may be isolated in having faulty hardware or bad software, we just have to wait for a few more people with the 920 to confirm.

Do any M17x owners know what brand the 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz is? I am considering getting some more memory from newegg once I get my order fufilled. Is it a 4Gig Stick? or 2 x 2Gig? Are there any compatibillity issues? Has anybody added memory that didnt come specificly from dell?
Should I do this or will it void my warranty?

if u ordered 4 it will be 2x2. so if you want to upgrade to 8 you are going to have to buy 4x2.. as for the brand, sorry.. no idea, but i know it's not the best one out there

Hey guys. I was reading before in one forum and there was one guy how owns an Asus G73 and an AW M17x-R2. The guy was saying that the 5870 in his Asus is actually quite larger than the 4870 in his R2 so it actually wont fit in his R2. So I am assuming from this that we wont actually see a refreash from Dell with 5870's cards for the R2
Anyone with knowledge on this fact please share

The 5870 in the G73 is a proprietary format that only Asus uses, so they probably just made it to their specs. If Alienware releases the 5870 card they will make it to their specs and everything will fit. The big question is if

Thx Luigo, had to get it again, but for the Alienware tech !! lol, 2 weeks ago, I had called the techs there about the unplugging / sleep system freezing, and he said they had no idea what was causing it.

When I called him today about my flickering continuing even after BIOS A02, I told him I had fixed my problem with the 10.3 Catalyst, so he told his teammates and they wanted to see the 10.3 !! Can'T believe we are teaching the tech making the supposedly "best" computer in the world !!

(Continues to be baffled how systems like this get released with major and easily discovered flaws)

So is this actually getting the 5870 anytime soon? The lead time is a MONTH on this system for some reason, yet still no 5870s available.

Well with the A02 bios release, the M17x-R2 is about as perfect as a consumer level system can get. I've been enjoying it for the last few weeks with the new bios and I'm glad everyone else can finally do the same.

I am loving the system very much. The best laptop I have ever owned so far and this is my 5th one in the last 4 years. I'm just glad I could finally afford a hgh-end one such as this.

My next step is to install the 10.3 driver and see how much improvement I can get in games vs. the stock driver.

The 10.3 driver will give you up to 10% increase in speed over stock in some games.

Joker do you have any indication when the 10.3 drivers will be released?
I also wanted to ask, if I do a clean win 7 install, do I install 10.3 on top of the dell drivers, or skip dell's and go straight to the Ati 10.3?

Edit: Till I do a clean install, to get 10.3 would I simply uninstall dell drivers, run CCleaner in safe mode, then install 10.3?

I think 10.2 was released around the 14th? So I'm sort of guessing 10.3 will be released sometime two weeks from now.

But where is the 5870? If a G73jh-A1 shows up in stock soon, I doubt I can resist...

VT & VM have to do with running a virtual machine within your windows as to emulate an OS. People with Win 7 Ultimate/Professional can run XP inside of 7 as long as their processor supports it and the bios allows it.

You can always go into the BIOS when you get it and see if it says A02 for the version. If not, just install it.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=464213

One other person had problems after updating to A02. He finally was able to just reseat his graphics cards and cables and he has been flicker-free ever since. You may have a similar situation. No one else has reported any problems as of yet.

Just curious, is anyone having issues with the volume buttons? Mine work infrequently but the others work fine.

Pretty much asking since my 30 day return policy ends tomorrow and Dell has yet to ship the replacement (20 days and counting). Honestly I'm pissed enough to start looking at other laptops but I really do like this one otherwise.

Well, I must say the touch pad aint perfect... but I think any touch-thingie wich isnt made by apple aint really worth it. I got the Blackberry Storm, since my phone company were not offering the iPhone, and I have an ipod touch. I HATE my Blackberry VERY much, and I still have 2 years left to keep it !! But the touch pad on the M17x ?? Well I'll just use it as less as possible... it works, but not really responsive...

I am in the same ipod touch/bb storm limbo haha, one in each pocket

I found that the touch panel on my M17x is working better not that I took it off and really pressed the pcb against the touch strip part. They get loosened when I initially popped off the panel to get to the CPU.
