It does the same thing for me when I run an extended desktop. If I solely run the external, there are no issues.

I have a quick question for anyone that has had to deal with an on site technician before. Currently both my 5870's reach 110c+ using furmark ( I shut it off at that point ) and I have a dell technician coming out to check/replace the cards.

I know that there is a very good chance it could just simply be the thermal paste/pads so I have ordered some to replace them. ( Shin-Etsu G751 and 1mm EK pads )

Anyway my question is do the tech's that come out, normally mind replacing the paste? or will they care if I replace it myself while supervising? Just trying not to break my warranty that's all, and would I be better off suggesting replacing the paste on my current cards? or use it on some new ones if that is offered as an option?

It really depends on the tech that comes.
Usually they are on your side of things and don't care if you wish to do it (reapplying TIM is covered by the warranty iirc)
There's also a possibility that the tech wouldn't want you to do that but instead would offer to swap the cards for the replacement ones and see the temps then, if the temps remain high then you can try to offer TIM reapplication.

I would swap first then do TIM if the temps are not lower. This way you could end up with the newer revision cards if you do not have them already
