I think my problems are something else though, Halo 2 (I think) caused the same crashing behavior

I think the default for the Cryo LX is to pull air from the bottom but you can easily flip the fans around
-
ya. i mean. logitech's solution looks much nicer, but, i dunno, too bulky. in fact i would like to carry that thing in my alienware orion bp with laptop
p.s. those s at ups... called them 15 times, telling em: contact the driver, i need it today and gotta leave house at 3-30 pm till 5:30 pm, but no, they cant... by far UPS is the worst delivery company i ever faced with. annoyed... ;S -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
You think they are bad? Try FedEx Home lol. The only FedEx service I trust at all is FedEx Express -
yeh, express works really good. by far, all delivery companies in the US are just beyond terrible. they have all these flashy signs telling you about customer service and care, but things as simple as calling driver to schedule pick up are impossible. to tell you the truth, i enjoyed EMS in Russia. you got delivery? they call your number, greet you, inform that package is at the center and ask if would you like the package to be left for your own pick up at the center, or if should the driver deliver it for you, AND IF YOU CHOOSE THE DRIVER - they ASK YOU WHEN ARE YOU HOME. perfect service. and that in a city with almost 1,000,000 people living in there.
where as in US... yea, wait for your laptop that is out there in some truck. -
@Le0- : The logitech solution is pretty bulky, and defenatly not smth you wanna carry around, but you can lay with it in the sofa and have your laptop on your lap (which is how I always use it) This could be me
For who was interested termsrv.dll manages remote desktop, which i use a lot on my homeserver which runs Win7 Home premium, standard you cannot use remote desktop on home premium you need pro or better to do that, but you can patch that dll so it does work (but not on SP1, due to new dll) -
right... good point. btw, package's weight is 18 lbs O_O looks like a heavy monster to me... is that normal, or someone sent me a package of bricks instead of laptop?
-
Ok so for starters thanks to Stereo and DanXbix for setting me on right path. +Rep To keeps it clean, my R2 "intakes" air from the bottom and "exits" from the rear.
On another note I ended up finding some nice stuff on Crysis 2. According to the Crytek website the game will have the following requirements:
Minimum system requirements:
-OS: Windows XP/Vista/7
-CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 2 GHz
-VIDEO: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT 512MB or AMD Radeon HD 3850 512 MB
-RAM: 2 GB for XP / 3 GB for Vista
-SOUND: DX-Compatible
-HDD: 9 GB
I did however find out that there are a slew of problems for the game. The main ones of interest are the lack of DX11 and ATI/Xfire support. Lets hope they get this fixed. -
No that is about right, my package was 20lbs shipped with FedEx.
-
ya. i realised my beauty has troubleshooting with its RGBLED. colors appear differently on left and right side + it has a small dent on the screen, do u think they gonna send in tech? am calling tomorrow.
-
How's this for first go? My CPU is OEM from dell not sure why showing in wPrime as ES??
I am sure i can push further
-

Yeah, your CPU isn't getting hot at all. I'm sure it can go further. What are your TDP/TDC set at?
-
90W 80A i think
will do further tests
-
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
My CPU does 32M in 9.6 seconds according to Wprime 2.05. I'm running at a 25x multiplier. That's nearly two seconds slower than a 940. I wonder what gives.
-
wow so i have a good CPU & good score then lol awesome
might try pushing it some more -
do you guys know of any software that can check colors of the screen? my upper left corner seems to show darker colors enough to distract
-
What temps are you seeing? It might be throttling. Have you made sure that you checked advanced settings and changed it to 8 threads?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Try to use wPrime 1.55 guys. That is the version that most people use and is what HWBot recognizes and recomends
-
It appears people playing the "beta" have found a workaround to lack of xfire support by renaming the exe to Rift.exe. I would imagine that ATI will have an update to their Application Profiles by the time Crysis 2 hits. There is no way AMD would not provide support for that one.
-
I am sure that this has been covered exhaustively somewhere, but could someone point me in the direction of what the procedure is to overclock the xfire iteration of the 5870m. I have read various things, but nothing really step-by-step. I know Radeon Bios Editor and GPU-z are needed, but I want something that spells it out so I can avoid bricking my cards.
Thanks in advance. -
I tried setting Throttelstop to 90/80 with 25x multiplier and while I can get pretty close to your wPrime time (I am only running 3% BCLK oc) my temps are significantly higher. I have already changed my thermal paste. Are you using a notebook cooler?
-
Thats pretty step by step. Any referances to the 4970 can be substituted for the 5870s. The steps in overclocking the cards is exactly the same.
-
Thanks DR650SE! I'll give that a go. Any suggestions as to what has been fairly successful overclocks? Keeping in mind that I have not done any alteration to the cooling of either card.
Edit: Nevermind, I found a thread to help.... Thanks again! -
Dude mines completely stock just have the back raised a little!
Running 5% BCLK & 26x multi -
For those who care, I tested an M17x R2 with the Radeon 6970M. Good news is that it boots up. Bad news is that the pixelation is out of whack, driver keeps crashing and the fans are stuck at a constant speed (same problem I had when trying the GTX 460M). This is also using the unlocked BIOS provided by TheWiz (he didn't do any GPU support mods yet in his current release).
-
Thanks for reporting ichime hopefully TheWiz can add support
where did you buy 6970m from?
-
MXM-Upgrade.com, but they're engineering samples. I'll probably hold on to them for a while...
-
How much did they cost? and did the heatsinks fit from your 5870's? did you sell your 460m?
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
except from gpu ids support it would be nice to add gpu oc options in bios i possible. if you could ask him -
They're $580 ($460 if you factor out shipping and thermal paste), but they're engineering samples. And I sold my GTX 460Ms a while ago.
I hope that just adding the GPU ID would be enough, but I fear that this might not be enough. Luckily, most MXM-based notebooks use a Phoenix BIOS (like the new Clevos), so maybe splicing the PCI-E info tables with the M17x BIOS would help... -
wow $580 US$ expensive! lol would love to see it happen though
-
That is good news, at least the hardware is working. It sucks that the drivers and bios are out, but a step in the right direction. While you were speaking about it, how is mxm-upgrade for purchasing? I have always been reluctant to purchase because they are out of Europe.
-
Leo, if you still get no alien ware owner reply, check the Dell sxps 1645 forum. Those guys have a Dell rgb screen and post about color correction and calibration.
-

As an update to my earlier post, I now have SP1 installed on all my computers. Just had to repair windows first.
-
hey guys was just wondering if anyone can tell me if this 5870 is compatible with the m17x ATI Mobility Radeon? HD 5870 GPU MXM 3.0 Type B - eBay (item 110640890899 end time Mar-27-11 12:37:43 PDT)

Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
as i can understand this has the clevo gpu bios on it. not sure if anyone tried clevo gpuson M17X. i had asked this long before but got no answer -
I do not believe that it will work. I remember reading a post were another person tried to use clevo parts or from mxm-upgrade.com and there was an issue with the vbios or something. I'm not sure what it is exactly but I think dell/alienware has some software/bios on the card that the system recognizes.
-
alright, thanks for the quick replies. on another note does anyone have any idea why i am getin micro stutters in many games while on crossfire but not on single card? could it just be the crossfire cable or would it be a bad second card? gpu z and CCC show them both running fine and at the same speeds.
-
thx, J! I think its not worth the bust... i see any kind of difference only when looking very close and still think this can be a "RGB screen thing"
what could help is if i could have an external monitor to connect to, to see if same reflection goes to there. then i might blame the gpu s' or something, but that wont happen in at least 6 more months till i get home...
-
Another curious thing is that my fan speeds always seem to be at 30% or 2500rpm even on idle, is that normal?
-
Hey dude.
I had experience with the clevo card and dell cards.... basically the clevos work but its not worth it.... why? because:
1. Audio over display port/hdmi won't work
2. Powerplay wont work so you have to manually lower clocks when out of a game
3. Tend to run a little hotter
4. Overclock MUCH less than Dell cards
5. Less stable
What WONT work is when you try to flash a Dell bios to a clevo card, you'll brick it.
So try to find someone selling Dell 5870s form the marketplace or something... then theres always Dell but it'll prob be overpriced...
Hope this helps -
Would you say mxm upgrade is expensive because it seems so, also would anyone be interested in buying 2x 4870's?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
MXM Upgrade will NOT be selling dell cards, they will be selling clevo cards most likely (maybe MSI)
You will have a hard time selling 2 4870s since they were the lowest cards offered in the R2 and most R1 owners who wanted them have them by now.
It really is not worth upgrading from 4870s to 5870s unless you specifically play a DX11 game -
Thanks, i want the upgrade due to crossfire stuttering issues(i know people say it doesn't happen but it does and i hate it), so i am stuck running one 4870 and this laptop doesn't offer any other 16:10 resolutions in game so i cant lower resolution to play a game with decent fps. Thus my need for a 5870 to replace 2 4870's.
-
Communication with them (MXM-Upgrade) is not the best (even with e-mail), but when it ships, they use DHL Worldwide express so it ships the next day.
One thing about the 6970Ms is that even though the cooler fits, the bracket that goes under the card (the X shaped metal piece you can pull from your old cards) doesn't fit exactly. It'll fit, but it can't be screwed too tightly to the cooler. If they can get a similar bracket with a bigger box in the bracket, it'll probably fit better.
And, according to their twitter page, they got this card to run stable on a Clevo W870CU. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I assume the card is a Clevo make and not a dell?
-
I miss my machine. Been gone since late January to the repair depot. The tech that came to replace my blu-ray player screwed stuff up so badly that it had to be sent in. Just found out last night that I'm getting a replacement in two weeks but I have no idea what that means besides maybe a minor upgrade in the form of a refurb.
I'd be much happier with a replacement in the form of a new machine. Even if it had the exact same specs. -
Has anyone else had the issue with micro stutters on crossfire with dual 4870's?
-
I didn't when I had 4870m crossfire. Are you using the latest driver release + CAP file? Also, try downloading RadeonPro and enabling triple buffering.
