Hey man
What I usually do, is go to Device Manager, and check the Hardware ID of each device that shows as not installed/undetected then google that. It always gets me the exact type of device/model it is and I just search for that on Dell's support page. -
hmmm....some games have the screen partially flicker black for not even a second some times and it's only like 1 or 2 games that do this. it usually flickers a bar the width of the screen but the height is variable.

Hi!
Currently I'm working on project to turn k3100m/k4100M into k5100m/GTX 880m without hardware mod and I'll be very appreciative if you help with some stuff. I'm looking for people with gtx 780/870/880 or quadro K3/4/5100M. All you need to do:
1. Download GPU-Z and save the vBIOS.
2. Download RWEverything, in top corner select "Access-->PCI". Then windows should appear - select device called "nVidia Corporation VGA Controller". After, save the info to binary with Shift+F2 combination.
3. Share this two files with me
Best Regards,
Valentine. -
still wondering why my screen flickers occasionally in some games. tried getting it in nvidia shadow play but nothing showed up.
-
also, sometimes when booting my screen flashes on and off twice when it is showing the alienware text logo and the loading ring of dots.

-

i am missing a driver for win 10 that's on the PCI express root complex and i have no idea what it is.
EDIT: it was the bluetooth and accelerometer.Last edited: Dec 3, 2015 -
Next time. Go into Device Manager, right click on the problem device and select Properties. Click the Details tab, choose Hardware Ids from the dropdown box and Google it.
-
i did. giving win 10 a try
-
You are crazy
. Good luck.
-
hehe will see how it is.

Google the Hardware ID String that you'll find in the Device Manager (where Papusan was talking about). -
so i installed win 10 on thursday evening and now i am starting day 2 of using it. interestingly enough i reduced the number of times my screen flashes on and off during the boot phase simply by turning off fast boot in the UEFI settings. instead of 3 flashes it just does 1 - not perfect but much better.

how did you sort out the "burning" screen panels under Windows 10 on Alienware?
-
i made sure not to install precision x or after burner. i use nvidia inspector to do the overclocking.
EDIT: I also disabled fast startup in windows cos i don't use sleep mode - it's either on or off for me.Last edited: Dec 5, 2015Nomad likes this. -
Do you know personally anyone with optimus (60Hz screen) who successfully installed drivers for the 980m in Windows 10? I would like to go back to W10 but I really don't want to get disappointed again and waste hours on that again...
-
no i do not.
-
yep, fast boot doesn't really help in win 10.
-
anyone dare to try an IPS panel from a clevo?
-
Tell me moar!
Upgrading my screen very well might be the last upgrade I can actually do... Do you have any links to the screen specs? -
the first barrier is the fact that they're 30 pin panels and the R1s are 40 pin.
-
double post
-
This could be pretty much mission impossible. In the 120Hz upgrade guide, there was a warning about some revisions of the 120Hz that weren't working for some people. So if such a thing can prevent an actual upgrade of the screen, I don't see how any Clevo screen could work on an Alienware...
-
120hz panel is fine....i suggest doing if you can find the parts
it was quite a challenge getting the cable 3 months ago not sure about finding them now.
-
aliexpress has cables:

i think there was a forum member here that is in china and could get the cables for people....not sure of the name but they did a neat mod with the spare screen they had pulled from their upgrade.
EDIT: It was this guy...

give them a PM and see if they're still there

hmmm...video rendering with my cpu is peaking into the 80s ?!?! what to do!?!?
-
-
i've been using gelide extreme...hmmm....may need a repaste?
-
What is the difference in temp now and before in the same scenario? I would purchased/tried Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut if you do not want to try ICD or Clu.
-
idles in the high 30s and the highest i have seen is about mid 80s when rendering a video.
-
I was thinking more on the difference in temperature before and now. What's the difference now and in the past? Can you check the maximum temperature in a full scan with your antivirus?
-
hmmm...i made a power plan specifically for rendering video...now the temps don't go nuts.
-
is it just me or is MSATA becoming rare to find?
-
What are you looking for? Normally a larger selection in 2.5"
-
was thinking of upping my OS SSD but i think i won't....maybe RAM
-
$$$
-
damn i hate having a digitally signed BIOS!
-
One of the reasons to go for Clevo next time

quick question anyone having heat problems with their 17 rangers. Mine is running in high 80s on gpu when i run games and the fan sux for cooling. hoping someone knows of a good mod or aftermarket solution
-
what's the GPU? 780M and 980M don't have much issues as long as you allow apps like HWINFO to do the fan controlling for you.
-

Have you tried the usual things: using can of compressed air to blow out dust from heatsink fins & fans and/or repasting CPU/GPU? -
-
Probably.
EDIT: I seem to lose access to the nvidia control panel sometimes. not sure why.Last edited: Dec 19, 2015 -
Maybe Win X HE(Horror edition)?
-
my guess is it's the nvidia driver screwing up again....might rollback to 359.00 and see.
-
359.06 or 359.12 now?
-
still 359.06, 359.12 is hotfix only that only applies to a few cards and the 980m doesn't count.Papusan likes this.

@thegh0sts
Are those drivers issues for the 980m related to us upgrading our AW17 R1 with "non-supported" GPUs or is everyone facing such issues with drivers on Win10? (for example on the new AW or MSI, Asus etc...)
