That's odd. I was able to install the 326.19 driver without issue (or modifications, like others are suggesting) and it works great.
Try reverting back to the stock driver, restarting the PC, re-downloading the beta driver (326.19) from NVIDIA, and then installing it.

-
Thanks for the swift reply guys appreciate it.
So if I uninstall my standard Dell NVDIA drivers and install the 326.29 driver it will no longer BSOD upon a restart? -
Should I uninstall AlienAudio? I'm sure it's the cause of my issues as if you try to change any sound setting in this app it causes stuttering while audio is playing.
-
Do not uninstall the stock driver, there's no need. I was able to upgrade to 326.19 after a few re-downloads and restarts, it finally recognized it. Oh, and for some reason, if I didn't install GeForce Experience it wouldn't work.
-
I just don't want another BSOD, i've tried updating the drivers twice and both times were successful installations only to lead to a BSOD upon restart.
-
Did you try downloading a different driver? That shouldn't be happening.
-
Guys I have a question, I noticed after the events of yesterday (see earlier posts) that my cpu temp is arround 70 °C now unloaded when browsing.
Is this alarming ? Noticed that when I'm in balanced mode, the temps drop immediatly, is this a sign of thermal paste failure ? -
Yeah I never had this issue on my MSI gaming series laptop. I will try the suggested revision from the earlier post however originally I could not update to any driver as it claimed to be incompatible with my hardware, that appears to have amended.
-
I'm now about to download the latest beta driver 326.41. The 326.29 was not on display and the only other option below 326.41 was the 326.19 which gave BSOD.
-
Seems normal, maybe a tad high, high performance mode pretty much locks all cores to 3.4ghz+ whereas balanced mode will jump between 1.3ghz and 3.4ghz depending on what your doing.
Do you have optimus? What intel drivers are you running? I personally have incompatibility issues with newer versions, only the windows update version of the intel driver gives decent stability. -
Um, that's a little warm for normal use. It's not damaging but it isn't ideal either. If I were in your position, I would re-paste the CPU, just to be safe. Mine never goes above 55C while browsing, but I do have a cooling pad. The ambient temperature in my room is about 76 - 78 degrees (Fahrenheit).
-
My machine does have optimus, my machine is sporting a GTX780M and a i7 4800QM however I could not update the intel HD graphics either. -
Have a coolermaster too, is it hard to do it yourself ?
Knowing that i'm a complete novice (managed to install 2 extra HDD but that's about it xD) -
FYI: That is the temperature I am seeing with the factory paste.
Anyway, re-pasting is actually pretty simple. I'd watch a few videos on YouTube before doing it (for the first time), and recommend you check out Alienware's owners manual as well. Just keep track of everything you take apart. I haven't re-pasted the 17 yet, so I can't comment on how easy or difficult it is. But from the looks of it, it is easier than the M17x R4. -
If you run Windows update, do you get an update/downgrade for the older intel drivers? Might be worth installing them, and then trying the latest nvidia drivers (beta) and see if it detects your card. I have 'card not found' when installing nvidia drivers with newer intel drivers for some reason. The nvidia drivers don't include the drivers for the intel card/optimus, so pick the windows update version of the driver for more compatibility.
I personally would leave the intel drivers to the latest ones available on Dell/Windows update. They seem most stable for me and most compatible.
I only have the R4, with the HD4000/680m graphics though, but it might be similar for you. -
I've got the m17. I run on high performance always. I've also got the i7 4800. Idle temps are around 35-40c and my room is pretty warm. 70 is way to high for idle. I've also taken the bottom panel off my 17. Repasting it is very simple. Very easy access to the heat sinks. Watch a few YouTube videos and you'll be good to go. Just be careful too much paste is not a good thing. Gotta get it right.

I think i've found a problem but i'm not too sure how to fix it properly. I had my Alienware 17 customized with a GTX780M and an i7 4800MQ from a US computing site. It was delayed originally with a few problems with the build on there end. Thinking about it now these issues I am having while attempting updates may be down to the original issues.
I have uninstalled the NVIDIA driver so it is solely running on the intel chip however there are no signs of the HD 4600 driver, i cannot make any graphics changed via right click on desktop as it just infinite loops the load bar. I can't even boot a game so first I need to attempt to fix this issues first. I am downloading an Intel HD Iris and HD driver from Intel hoping this will fix any issues here. As for the NVIDIA driver installation I am going to install the latest beta and I am hoping there won't be another BSOD on reboot....
Can anyone give me some advice if possible? Any easy fix? -
Windows update does not display anything about graphics drivers. My machine does not have any Intel HD drivers installed and the driver I got off Intel does not install as my machine does not meet the minimum requirements so I am stumped. While the NVIDIA driver has been uninstalled I haven't been able to play any games or make any graphics changes. A right mouse click on the desktop to attempt to make any changes left the loading cursor in a infinite load loop....
I have just installed the latest NVIDIA drivers and about to restart hoping that there will not be a BSOD. -
I would just use AlienRespawn and restore your computer to factory state, and first thing: update the graphics driver. I have no idea why you can't install the driver, it makes no sense to me.

The 17 cpu and gpu are very easy and take less than 20 minutes if that. Quite pleased with how easy it was.
-
That's what I was gonna say, but I didn't know for sure. The CPU and GPU are literally right in your face when you take off the cover, so, yeah...

Glad it is still simple like previous models.

I have been waiting since July 30 for my 17's "delivered by" date of August 20 (that's tomorrow!!!). But hold on... not so fast... as of this morning my delivered by date on Dell.com has changed...to... wait for it..... October 2!
That's not tomorrow, that's 6 weeks from tomorrow! Safe to say AW's parts shortages have been confirmed.

Fn+F5 to restart with Optimus, you probably have Optimus disabled and are running on the 780M alone.
When installing the NVIDIA drivers, don't forget to tick the "Perform a clean install" box. -
I got my alienware 17 gtx 780m.am happy with it but i noticed that there is a scrach on the left side above the left speaker on the black rubberised area.i called dell and they have placed my new order as i called them on 5th day after getting my laptop.they even gave me new order number which shows in production but with no estimated delivery date.have any one experienced such? bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
yea they will probably send you a brand new machine and then you will have to send your original one back. Dell will probably refurbish it and sell it on the dell outlet.
-
They will let you continue to use your 17 , after the NEW BUILD comes to your door you will box your old one up. Call Dell if you have not received a prepaid way bill they will email it. Print it ship unit back to Dell. Your old unit will be refurbished and sold on the Dell Out Let most likely as a scratch and dent unit. They will in no way give you a refurbished unit, those are only given if you are outside the 21 day return and even then I have seen new replacements. Good luck and keep us posted and welcome to the forum :hi2:

I will try asking one more time... If I want to use digital audio should I use something like thi Amazon.com: Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro II USB Analog & Digital Audio Adapter: Electronics OR can I use a mini toslink in the 3.5mm port? .....w.e
-
They have a motherboard shortage. I confirmed this as my motherboard on my 17 died and they said that they would not have the parts until at least mid september. Needless to say I am pretty miffed and sending it back for a refund. -
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
You should be able to use a micro adapter in the standard 3.5 ports. I don't see why you would need the USB input. -
That will work just fine I use Amazon.com: Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Go! Pro USB Audio System with THX SB1290: Electronics
Works nicely. -
Sorry for digging this, you can stil increase your donation with link from email (and also get missing titles this way).

Haha, thanks, if I'm feeling altruistic over the next few days I might give that a try! -
The dell tech just left and it took him like about 5 minutes to replace the GPU, it was fast. But he had to replace the keyboard and had to tear down the entire system. But after all that my laptop GPU now runs at 60-65c without a cooling mat(Tested with Heaven at Extreme Settings). Also when he got the heat sink there was thermal paste already factory applied to it, he just removed it and put on his own (Ic Diamond).

Glade your all up and happy now good deal.

Hey sorry for this stupid question (
But can you buy the Alienware 17 for a monthly cost. When I looked into it said 56.67£ 24 months.
If this is the monthly contract, is this the final sum? So 56.67£ every month for 24 months
Sorry I'm 15 -
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
In the US at least, you cannot get a payment plan under the age of 18. -
Thank you. Has anyone bought it by paying monthly?
So 56.87 £ would be the fixed price every month correct? -
Yes many of us have accounts check here Dell Preferred Account Login & Payments | Dell
This is where to start you even get some off the price for being a customer. -
Alright so I've discovered something that is driving me nuts right now, does anyone know why when you are viewing an application such as winamp, using the milkdrop visualizer or while when playing a game if you try to turn up or turn down the volume on the laptop using function F7 or F8 it will exit you out of your game of screen you were looking at. So dumb I feel this is not normal and there must be a fix somewhere?
-
Msconfig > startup then disable Alienware O.s.d. In startup. Then restart.

Does the 17 not have White in the AlienFX?
-
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
-
What? So you can't have white lightning on the keyboard? That's just ridiculous.
-
I agree - I don't know why they removed white - it was an option on the last generation. Dell - please fix!!!!
-
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
The Light Blue is a decent replacement for white IMHO. I use that when I don't want anything distracting. Its strange though, when I use the Visualizer that goes with iTunes, the keyboard does flash white. -
I have added a request on Dell's IdeaStorm, I can't imagine it would take a developer more than a little bit of time to add it to the software.
Idea Storm
Anyone who cares - please upvote the idea! Even if you don't care, upvote it for the rest of us! LOL
