Is the DNWKK part the three-piped heatsink for the processor?

Your computer should have come with a triple-pipe heat sink already, with that 4900MQ.

I've spoken with Dell again this morning, and my order supposedly shipped on the 26th. I suppose "Next Business Day" shipping does not always mean Next Business Day. Hopefully it arrives today. I was never provided with tracking information.

I called again to confirm the information was correct, and according to this person, my order is still in "final stages" awaiting shipment. I'm going to assume the second person is correct because FedEx would have delivered my computer by now, especially since it had the Next Business Day shipping method. Perhaps the first person lied to me to get me off the phone...who knows.

EDIT: FedEx has confirmed I have no scheduled deliveries for today.

What a bunch of monkeys at Dell. Likely one rep was just telling you what you wanted to hear to get rid of you.

My briefcase and chill mat just arrived today. The briefcase is awesome. Seems durable and well made, though I would have liked it to be a bit more solid as there doesn't feel to be a whole lot of protection for a laptop of this size and weight. Not a whole lot of padding either if it gets dropped.

If anyone ordered the HD3 Chill Mat, it seems well built (for a chill mat) and the usb cord that powers it is removable meaning you don't have to worry about breaking the cord going into the back of it if you are transporting it anywhere. A word of caution though, and this is my fault for not researching enough, it takes 2 USB ports to fully power it meaning you will only have 2 usb ports remaining. If you are going to be using it as a desktop replacement like I am, that means no extra open usb ports remaining for storage devices as my keyboard and mouse will be occupying the other usb ports left.

So I looked at mine, I have i7-4930mx and mine only has a dual pipe on the cpu. wonder if that was one of the shortage items so they stuck the dual on it? Are you sure there is a triple for the higher end CPU's on the 17"?

Yes, it was supposed to have a triple-pipe heat sink. According to another member here, who has the 4900MQ, his system has two triple-pipe heat sinks in it: CPU and GPU.

If mine doesn't, I'll probably return it. I paid extra for an extreme processor, and it better have the best heat sink...

They probably will. I'd give them a call. Explain to them that you ordered an extreme edition processor, which should come standard with a three pipe heat sink.

Mine is supposed to be turning up this Friday. I guess I can assume that I will have the dual pipe in mine as well.

I wonder if they used the dual pipe heatsinks to get the orders out the door? Or maybe they only use the triple pipe assemblies on the 18? I did a google search and only found references to the 18 talking about this heatsink.

Anyway, what sort of a difference does it make in terms of CPU temps? Would like to know if its worth fussing over :)

I wonder if they are obliged to replace it under warranty? My order receipt doesn't mention anything about heatsinks...

Mine shipped on Friday . The fedex showed shipment info received and edd of Tuesday wich makes sense because of the weekend. But come Monday ( today ) they changed the edd to Wednesday . The funny part is the place fedex picked up the package is only 3 hours from my house . Driving distance. So much for 2nd day dilivery. I waited 29 days for my order to ship from day of purchase.

Now it's going to take me 365 days to pay it off. Lol.

    Hi Player2
Thanks for replying. Dell is telling me that there is a parts shortage and I will not get my order till the 21st of October. I ordered a laptop on August 8th and that one was defective so I have been waiting for the replacement forever.....
I have no idea what is going on with Dell here lately ...
They have been telling people there order has been sent but they are getting no updates or tracking information.

This will be my last Dell order that's for sure..

I agree with you on that one.
If I have any problems what so ever and have to go through some of the stuff I've heard people on here half to go through with dell it will defiantly be my last dell order also.
Just ordering the darn thing was an experience in itself . And I don't mean good one either.

    Hi Player2

I paid $3750 for mine and to be treated this way is crazy as far as I am concerned.

I could deal with it I guess a lot more if I was told the truth from the start.
Good things come to those who wait well I guess this is going be one hell of a laptop...lol

I have been lied to a lot the past week or so, it's quite shocking, to be honest. I understand maybe if the production time is really 10-14 days, they say 7-10 days - little lies like this are tolerable, but telling me my order shipped days ago just to get me off the phone? I went home and waited several hours and then decided to call FedEx to find the truth. How absurd is that?! And I've convinced two people in the last week to buy Alienware systems... I should be getting a free one!

I hope Michael Dell changes a lot when the company goes private. Please, for the sake of Alienware, change & improve customer service!

Can anyone tell me why in my 3D Mark 11 score it is showing my GPU core clock at 324mhz I thought the thing was 700Plus?? Or am I just misunderstanding the results? Also can anyone answer my question before about what the purpose of the power target slider is in EVGA Precision X?

It's strange, when I checked the box it clearly states 4900mq..but when I go to Dell site using my service tag, it says 4700mq (0DMPC). Maybe that is the reason I have the two-piped one.

Ok yet another thing I'm running into, I've got my Alienware 17 hooked up to my 60 inch Sharp TV which supposedly has 120hz refresh rate, now my laptop screen itself has a refresh rate of 60hz so I get that I can't turn that up, however when I go into Nvidia control panel and select the Sharp Display, 120hz refresh rate is not availlable to me, even though I have a 120hz tv. So I created a custom display setting allowing 120hz refresh rate and then when I select that setting for the TV monitor in the nvidia control panel the TV just goes black for a few seconds and won't output in 120hz I don't get it. I'm using the HDMI out port to connect the laptop to the TV. Is there something else I need to do or will the laptop simply not output in 120hz via HDMI?

It's the same for mine, for my GPU. I'd imagine that it's because 3DMark11 measures the GPU core frequency when it's in one of the lower power states. You can use a program like GPUz (free small monitoring program) to monitor your clocks, and then you can be sure that you're getting the proper clocks that are advertised.

EDIT: The power slider just adjusts the power limit upwards, to allow your GPU to consume more power before throttling the clocks. By increasing the limit you're more likely to be operating at the highest boost clocks in all gaming situations.

Has anyone tried BF4 Beta on their 17 yet?

I had a quick shot on it earlier and its superb but my frame rate jumps around all over the place ranging from 7fps upto 80+ on 'Auto' video settings (a combination of ultra and high.) Tried lowering the settings but didn't see a huge difference. I was running in Optimus, which im almost sure is going to be the issue but I didn't have much time to play around with it, just thought i'd see if anyone else has seen a similar thing

From what I have read, the HDMI will not do 120Hz so you will need to use the Mini Display port to do 120Hz to the tv.

I haven't tried this yet - but I believe you can only get 120Hz out using the DisplayPort. I have a 120Hz internal display - and I believe it is also connected via DisplayPort.

A quick question for those who have the New Alienware 17.
Mine should arrive in a few days and I am going to install another 8Gig of RAM and a SSD Drive.
Does Dell from the factory install the RAM under the keyboard which I hope is the case or do they load it in the easy to reach slots under the backplate..
I really don't want to have to take the additional steps and remove the keyboard just to add some RAM...

Ok but what I don't get is how you get it to the TV, Tv's don't have display ports on them at least mine doesn't. I've heard you can get converter cables, but if you just converting display to HDMI, then surely it still won't carry the 120hz signal to the TV? Which raises the question why are all these TV's advertising 120hz refresh rates, when you aren't able to see that using the main tech the TV has in HDMI. Bluray players use HDMI, Game consoles use HDMI, cable boxes use HDMI, so nobody is getting 120hz refresh unless their TV has a display port in?? Sounds incredibly stupid

I read somewhere that RAM is by default divided into both slots - I don't know how this affects the installation of new modules, though.

As for the SSD, can I ask you to report on your experience once you have installed it on the AW17? I'm going to do the same when I get mine, but from what I read it can be quite tricky, especially if you want to preserve UEFI and secure boot. Let me know how you do it, please.

If it is anything like the M17x R3, the RAM will be installed in the bottom(easiest to get place)

And you will have to tear down the machine to install under the keyboard.

You are waiting for a replacement, right? Those are low priority for Dell. New orders ship first, so it's likely someone ordered a system with the same specs and they got it first.

You have waited long enough for your shipment and I am happy to see that finally yours is shipped.

I have a problem being lied to and making payments on a laptop I don't even have yet.
I think most would agree with that statement..

They're not low priority. I meant to say they are of lower priority than new orders, which makes sense. You technically already had a system and now are waiting for another. You probably got your first one fast or on time, so, yeah...

Hope mine is flawless... I'd hate to have to wait again... I probably won't, though. I'd just do a refund.

Yeah, if I had a major problem with this, I would get a refund and go back to the MSI GS70... haha

I was told mine will definitely get to me MUCH sooner then the 21st... haha
