yes exactly. The bottleneck is in the vid card. The 3610 is plenty for gaming. All a more powerful cpu will do is get you closer to 7K in 3dmark11

Using history as precedence, what you will see is a nvidia 775m which would be nothing more than a 680 rebadge, and Dell will charge $150 more for the nvidia 775m compared to the AMD 8970

Just ran 3DMark 11 on my new drivers and got a P3888. CPU FSB was overclocked to 104MHz and my GPU was overclocked as high as it could go. What do you guys think?

Here you go, all credits to uQwE, I asked him about the CCC settings, according to him it's all stock, untouched after the driver installation.

    Impressive card... :)

    my gpu voltage is 1075v

I got the same, I found it very hard to reach higher scores with other components clocked high as well. It seems that the 7970m has a power management thing because as soon as I reached a certain point, any higher resulted in lower scores.

There is a new modded 12.6 driver compatible with 7970M from Guru3D. This one is newer than the previous 12.6.
AMD Catalyst 12.x (8.980.0 June 4) Unofficial BETA download from Guru3D.com

Below are a few runs I did with both drivers 12.5 and 12.6.

Besides manually setting fans to max via HWinfo and closing off windows gadgets and object dock, everything else is keep as is. I didn't use throttlestop.

    CPU 40-39-37-37. GPU 950-1400

    12.5

I did 2 3Dmark 11 benchmarks with 12.6 since I noticed the score is lower.

So yeah for me vantage get better score while 11 not so much.

    Hear that!

On windows I still just live with the dell driver, never could get any of slickdude's linked drivers to work. Under linux, I have the AMD driver installed but the displays all have an "AMD unsupported hardware" watermark in the bottom right corner (even when the display goes to sleep, which is weird...). But my m17x/7970m is great for work, I can drive 2x 24" 1200p external displays with it and am still working on getting the 3rd using VGA (no idea why that did not work yet).

if you are on a m17x R4, i'd stick with the dell driver too...at least for now. if you want to install the modded drivers posted, you should first FN+F7, go to the dedicated GPU, then the drivers will install. but you lose Enduro and the use of the integrated GPu if you do that.

Yeah, its an R4 and I have lost the Enduro anyway, I dual boot and was totally unable to get the AMD linux driver without the FnF7 trick, kept saying there was no AMD card.
But that was no major lost anyway as for me Enduro was quite broken in windows. I could not get Civ5 to launch on the AMD and it would just go a little and then crash hard.

(and yeah, I realized your guide was for an R3 when I went to flash the bios, good thing it would not let me, I was being rather stupid that day).

Around 15-20% when recording screen output at full frame 1080p.

You're welcome, bro. Would be even more serious if and when AMD releases a decent driver for it.

I haven't run that yet. Will have to give it a run to see.

Guys! You can use the modded and/or beta drivers with enduro too. After install i switched back with Fn+F7, then enduro is working flawlessly. Basic use is integrated GPU, and you can set up the switchable graphics page in CCC. In this way i get more than 5hrs!!! of battery life, and when i'm plugged and playing games are running on the 7970m automaticly. Try it out! :)

Can you be more specific? This is great news if you are on the m17xr4 with the 7970m and have non-dell drivers, but I tried a bunch (from the r3 thread by slickdude) and never got any of them to take. I think it was 12.4/5/6 I tried.

    Can you give a link?

Guys, i need your help. I´ve a sager with 7970m and I am experiencing overheating problems.

My seller replaced the thermal paste, but the temperature stays at 90 degrees celsius, and they claim that this is the standard temperature.
    They say there's nothing wrong.

I've seen in forums that the normal temperature at full load is between 70-75

To make a refund, they require me to prove that the 7970m does not reach 90 degrees running Furmark.

Can someone please run Furmark at 7970m and take a printscreen after 5 minutes of test (resolution 1920x1080, stock clocks)?

    Thanks a lot!!
