    IE8, batboy.

Ruby - I suppose it could be gfx related. Scrolling down is also laggy, but not safe mode VGA laggy. Somewhere in between.

I haven't experienced it in a week so am recalling this from memory. Hopefully I don't experience it again.

mine is getting more and more frequent. it used to be 1 in 10 boots and now its somewhere between 3-5 in 10 boots..

really not sure if i should call dell cos they might want to take action and replace my parts and the tech might arrive with refurbished parts which i really do not want.

    does anyone have this issue?

I had similar problems and they seemed to go away or at least improve significantly when I implemented Gizmo's wireless fixes - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5543296. I have come to think that "device sleep on disconnect" is tied to more than one problem. I've also seen marked improvement using Dell's WLAN driver 5.60.18.8. The new synaptics touchpad driver v14.0.12.0 seems less buggy too.

If you really think it's related to power consumption, then try resetting your FSB to normal 1066 and see if that helps.

Im currently experiencing high CPU useage when im not doing anything except browsing the internet. It seems to jump when i move the net window and scroll up or down...When i boot up it seems to go straight to 100% of useage. I checked the task manager and i am useing nothing but the basics. The comput is still completely stock. I was tinkering around in the bios but changed nothing. I looked at the Raid setup, but i didnt do anything there either...what is up. I've had this for like two wks. I even restored it back to a couple of days ago just incase i did install some crazy program, but that didnt fix it.

    PS

by the way MOO i found your M17x video, it was very entertaining to see how many screws are in this machine....nice work buddy.

One card is most likely not functioning in SLI properly with your game. This is typical with newer games and older drivers. This can also happen with the new 195.xx driver where after gaming, one GPU will not downclock properly after exiting the game and it will continue to run at max clocks. This typically translates to a 10 degree difference and is a good indicator.

It is also possible there is a hardware issue however I am more inclined to say its a driver compatibility issue.

Which game and which driver are you running?

Most online gamers know that if you have access to a cabled network port (ethernet) you will always have better and totally stable latency compared to wireless. If you're unable to configure your M17x's wireless card and your wireless router to work together just plug it into the ethernet and it will likely work, and you will be able to use google to learn more.

Is it as simple as buying an.."Ethernet cable" or something? I have no experience with ethernet, well atleast hooking it up to a computer anyways.

Question guys. WHen you overclock your processor, do you stress test it? Right now I'm overclocking via the BIOS, then I stress test it to see if it shutstdown. My question is what level stress test do you set it at? I have it on maximum right now which fils the mem and 100% load on CPU cores. Am I going about this right?

EDIT: Also as far as CPU temp goes, which program is more accurate? Core Temp or Hardware monitor? I notice that Hardware monitor is showing me lower temps then Core Temp when I run them simultaniously

How loud should my fans be getting while playing games? Like what would be average.."loudness"? it depends on the games sometimes but when its a really big graphics heavy game like GRID the fans get loud. Not so much where it bothers gameplay but its very noticeable..

Seems like my fans are running all the time as well as they are quite loud, but with the M17X I expected that, perhaps still not used to it. I have a few things that seem like they may be issues. Red alien (not one of my AlienFX colors) when I plug in the laptop ect.

I wanted it to say Terminal 42 :( Thats pretty much my name on most online games, it was supposed to be a name feared by many and respected by all.

On the back it says M17x T_T doesn't bother me too much since its on the bottom of the system. At least the thing works alright.

    Haven't overclocked the Q9000 yet.

Hi everybody....first post here. I picked up an anodized red M17x during Dell's Black Friday sale ($200 in free upgrades and 20% Bing.com cashback).

I'm thoroughly enjoying the performance of this machine, though not the 12lbs it weighs :p

I'd like to order a second SSD for additional boot drive space and to run RAID-0 (I have a 4TB NAS so no need for big drives).. I'm having a bear of a time tracking one down. The OEM one from Dell is a Samsung. I've found a Corsair # CMFSSD-128GBG2D that appears similar and also an OCZ Summit model that's supposed to be identical (though only 120gb list size vs. 128gb for the OEM).

    FWIW...the p/n on my OEM drive is MMCRE28G5DXP-0VBD1 - from Samsung's site, it's a model PB22-J

    MINE SHIPPED.

    Over 2 weeks early!

Too bad they gave me the tracking number for an order that shipped in March to Pittsburgh. Anyone here?

OK, back to your regularly scheduled programming...

hey, you got a tracking #!!! I got a door tag from Fedex at 11:30pm one night (which itself is strange). Next day, my wife saw a Fedex driver leave another (no knock or doorbell). The day after that, Dell sends me a tracking number from which I discern what Fedex is trying to deliver. I called Fedex and ripped them a new one....got the box delivered 10:52pm that night (they work late!)

I've never had that problem with FedEx. They like to deliver at 1:30 on weekdays (when I and most of the working population are at work) and refuse to deliver to my apartment complex office, saying I should pick up my package from their distribution center over an hour away. Luckily I don't go back to work till the fourth! :D

Hi guys. I got this system message before Windows boot up that says :

"The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.
Stealth mode is enabled. Connect a supported AC adapter and restart the system to enable discrete graphics.
    WARNING:
A AC adapter has been detected, which is less than the recommended 240W adapter originally shipped. Stealth mode is enabled. Connect a supported AC Adapter and restart to enable discrete graphics."

So I checked everything. AC power supply and adapter neatly plugged into power socket. M17x plugged in properly.

One thing I noticed is that both the power button and the alien head glow RED. I tried to see if this was AlienFX's problem. So I changed the color to blue. When I restart and plug the power supply in, it reverts back to RED. It drives me nuts.

It's plugged in. REALLY. But according to my battery indicator in the taskbar, it's not. It doesn't even charge my battery! I tried draining my battery and seeing if it'll charge. It won't.

Now I'm running in stealth mode, my processors are underclocked. I'm not really sure where this came from. I've had this laptop for two to three months and there hasn't been an issue, just now. I'm not sure if it's a power supply problem.

    Suggestions anyone?

It's either your power supply not meeting specs, or it's your motherboard pulling a shortbus on you. I'd call dell and demand a new power adapter first to see if that's the problem.

Could be. I had the same issue on my M1730. Call Dell ASAP and request a new adapter. If that doesn't work, it's the motherboard. The adapter part is easy because Dell can one-day ship it to you. The mobo on the other hand can be a PITA if a dell tech has to come install it.

Yeah I did. This happened at home, now I'm at work, and it's still the same thing. Getting worried really.

Worst thing is, I'm in China. I had this imported from the US, and getting another power supply would be a pain. There's DELL China, but I swear i'm gonna have a hard time getting them to see what's wrong.

I saw the power supply and it says "Made In China". So i don't think i'll have a hard time getting another one.

I had this problem on my Inspiron 1720 and it was really cutting performance. I had to get a new power supply. Check to make sure that it doesn't have any nics in the cable. That was the downfall of mine. Tell Dell and they should send a new one if you have it under warranty

I'm noticing a strange clicking noise coming from the middle/top left corner of the inside of my system while playing certain games. Not all of them though. Does it the most with simcity societies.

Is this normal or should I check something?

Quick question. When I have my M17X turned on and decide to move where I'm working, when I unplug the power supply, is the laptop supposed to shut off? I'm I doing something wrong or is something jacked up? This really doesn't seem normal to me. I have the battery enabled. And when it gets pluged in the Alien on the top and the power button glow red which is not one of my presets. Any thoughts?

the clicking noise is usually the fan...you're putting pressure on the bottom cover.

the power thing when unplugging the laptop...mine does that same. My guess is that you need to switch to the onboard graphics as the dedicated graphics won't run on battery power. the system is still on...its just that the screen goes black. I wish the system would auto-switch.
