Do you really think there will be significant problems with these cards?

Just speculation at this point. There are a couple people here that have insider info but I haven't seen any of those people say anything yet. If our ETA passes then I'll start asking around.

I sincerely apologize for posting here but I could not find this anywhere (maybe I'm not looking hard enough)

I have been eyeballing the new M15x,one with 260m and similar style with M17x. However I have not been able to find a real user review that notes heat, noise and actual normal people's feeling toward it. I'm really tempted to picking one up, can someone point me to the right direction? Greatly appreciated,...

Haha i was afraid to even post that knowing you would take it that way :)..

Significant ? Nah .. Small issues ? Possibly yes.. Its all speculation at this point but i wont put it past Dell to release the machine in not 100% working order just to get the machines rolling .. This kind of thing is holding back production,Money etc and causing cancellations and other headaches so i imagine at somepoint they will shove it out the door regardless if its perfect or not .. They can release Bios updates to address many issues so i would not go worrying about it just yet... M15x is one example.. M17x has not been totally problem free even with the Nvidia cards in them either but with the bios updates they can/have work out the kinks...

You will have 21 days to decide either way so dont start worrying now till you get it in your hands . If your not happy back it go's to Dell and youll get a full refund so either way your covered..

Quad, does that 21 day return window start when the sysrtem is actually ordered? Or when its physically shipped out? Some of the folks here that have ordered these systems and havent gotton them are very close to that 21 day threshhold. As for me well....Am I a little nervous? Sure! This is the first time I have ever dropped so much coin on a system. im not freaking out over it or anything ;)

So i've been losing faith in ASUS and my W90 for the past few months. There's no driver support!

I walk into my local Micro Center and lo and behold there's a M17x sitting among the laptops on display. I'm like "? when did MC start selling dell/Alienware".

Well Microcenter did try to sell them with limited luck. The display model was being sold as "open box" for $1800. Q9000/ 2 x gtx 260m in sli/1920x1200/Optiarc DVDRWBD/4gb ram/500gb.

So I looked over every inch of the laptop and bought it!

It appears there's tons of good info about the laptop in here. I've got alot of reading to do.

I really want to upgrade the chip to a QX9300. Any reliable online stores selling for around $500? I see some china imports on ebay.. and every "respectable" online retailer is $1000+.

    Thanks
    helm

btw.. asus w90 going on ebay in a few days. :)

$1800, for those unsure, that is the price of a 100% base configuration lol, yet he got so much more than that

there is a spring loaded slider that locks it in place, simply slide it and it will pop up one edge of the battery for you to take hold of and remove it

Yeah so far so good :)

Not sure if anyone seen my post many pages back but I am looking to upgrade my laptop to 8gb of ram with 1333 MHz but from places like newegg I am seeing several different types of the 2x4gb 1333MHz modules. Can someone give me an insight on which ones I need to purchase?

Lets hope the replacement is flawless. i was in touch with someone from their corporate office who has taken the charge of my case. he isnt ready to offer any discount or compensation, so ive asked the tech editor of Stuff India to help me out.

So my replacement M17x has been ordered. When pressing for the specs, I was told that that info wasn't available because it came from the supervisor. I even said I wanted to make sure since this is now the 3rd system dispatched to replace my 1730 because the specs weren't accurate. I was assured that they were. Why do I have a funny feeling I'll be looking up this post in a couple weeks?

Really? I only see one on newegg lol. Not so much of a large selection if you ask me ;)

They are all the same type, 204-Pin SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666). The only thing that differs is the brand. And they're all pretty good.

Has anyone that ordered the 4870's gotten past the production phase on the Dell website? I have an EDD of 15 Oct. I just called Dell and they couldn't tell me anything more than the website. He told me if it doesn't show shipped by tomorrow it will be delayed.

Like mandrake said, call the number that is on the first page of this thread. You will get an in depth order status versus of what the rep or the computer is telling you.

Mine is In Production, and when I called, that In Production status is the Build Stage.

    Give the number a try.

You will most likely get it way before then. Dell always does that, but ultimately it should take about 2 weeks from order to door. Unless, as you have said, you ordered the 4870. So, you should be good to go.

OK a couple of Dell ideastorm votes are needed.

1st up. A lot of XPS M1730 owners are/have been upgraded to the M17x due to GPU problems. The current 1730 owners are trying to get a bios update from Dell to fix the temp' cycling issue. So could you please vote thru the link in my sig if you have owned an XPS M1730?

The more votes the better so have a read and if you agree.... :D

Well I checked and my M17x is still listed in build stage. I talked with another rep this morning and I was told the 4870 video cards are on backorder. I was really hoping to have it by this weekend. It is not looking too promising. Dell is supposed to get back to me by tomorrow with more details. I had placed my order on 9/23.

People getting the 4870's - are you not concerned about the disparity between the discrete graphics (9400) and the ATI cards? Since they're supposedly not going to work at the same time for hybrid graphics?
