qn1 answer: install Dell Driver and then the Modded Cat 9.12

qn2 answer: You can install over it. (What you have to keep in mind is this. Once there is a crossfire option, you can install new drivers over it.)

Okay, I'm having a weird problem. I've had an additional monitor hooked up to my M17x (via an HDMI to DVI cable) and it's worked just fine. Just now, for some reason, the screen flashed, and now both monitors show exactly the same thing (with the mouse cursor on both screens) and the resolution dropped on both down to like 1024 x 768 or something. When I unplugged the cable, my main screen went back to normal. Anyone know what's going on?

*EDIT* I figured it out; in the NVIDIA Control Panel, the "clone display" box somehow got checked, and after I unchecked it, it fixed itself. Still weird how that happened...

so what exactly happens if you do a fresh install and only install modded 9.12 drivers...? no crossfire? seems like the mobility modder isn't doing its job if you need to install others drivers before it.

Hey just wondering if anyone could provide me a link to the 9.12 drivers? Also do i need to mod them or are they already modded, if so is it just a copy/paste inf file?

Hi Guys, Just wanted to say i've sold my 17 inch laptop and I will not be returning for now to the 17 inch realm. I used the money to get an M11x for school/travel and built myself a desktop (shown below) and it still came out cheaper than an M17x-R2 :p

for some reason my sig aint working but this is my new setup

    Alienware M11x SU7300 / 4GB HyperX CAS7 RAM / 128GB CRUCIAL M225 SSD / NVIDIA GeForce 335m GT 1GB DDR3

    Custom Core i7 920 Nehalem / 6 GB G.SKILL Triple Channel / ASUS P6T SE X58 / Samsung SpinPoint 1TB / ATI Radeon 5850 1GB GDDR5 / OCZ StealthXStream 600W PSU

Congratulations. The M11x is a fine piece with the portability and modest high-end gaming factor.

The desktop can take care of the rest.

I did just that last night. Fresh install of win 7 and then installed the 9.12 drivers after the mobility mod. the drivers work but you will not have any cross fire options.

On a side note today after school I closed my laptop without shutting down and put it in my backpack. I got it out when I reached home and the fans were full tilt going all out and the whole damn computer was almost too hot to touch. I cooled it down and everything is working ok now. But I still do not know what the hell happened why did it heat up while in sleep mode. Could this me caused by the modded drivers? Anyway something to be aware of, maybe it was a fluke thing.

    1) uninstall the driver you currently have right now. Reboot

    2) install Dell ATi 4870 driver, reboot if it asked you to.

    3) Install the Cat 9.12 Driver, now you will have X-Fire.

nickbarbs, how long did you own ur m17x before you returned it for a refund?

was the refund full or for a depreciated price?

was it a replacement for an xps 1730 or did you buy it

    Hey there,

Found a buyer in London and just sold it. Didn't want to wait around - don't have the time right now. Need to get going as i'm knee deep in an MBA program. Got a good deal so I'm happy.

    It was an M1730 replacement.

i still have an r1 which is going to get the gtx 280s swapped for 4870s on monday.

hope it makes things playable even if it doesnt solve every thing.

im sure there are still many r1 owners out there since most of the guys who owned r1s SOLD their systems so there would be other owners

rubyboy, I'm sure you'll be pleased with your setup. I loved my ATI's. When you get them shoot me a PM and I will provide you with a link to the Cat 9.12 drivers, which have already been modded. All you have to do is d/l and install. They are the best for both gaming and benching. In Vantage, I saw a 600+ GPU score increase just by installing these alone. Never had an issue with them gaming either as they are completely stable. Best of both worlds.

I don't have it anymore, but I loved it indeed, and never had real problems, with stutter and what not... It is an incrible machine still!
But unfortunately (through circumstances) I am forced to be a rat and get a R2 :p

    p.s I guess Batboy still has a R1 and isn't getting a R2, so 4 in a million ;)

I am content with my system. I have really tried to exploit the problem, for the sake of furthering my knowledge. Hell, I even run with Hybrid SLi enabled in BIOS, and even then, the issues are almost non-existant.

    Driver: 186.82, with Nhancer.

upgrading laptops is just to stay on top of the hill

between both revisions...about 5 to 20 fps separate them...r1 is just as good as r2..(technically speaking) main difference being the cpu (not talking about all the other stuff) they each shine on their own fronts (depending on user) imho

Yea, the switch out to ATIs from the 260s are a nice little bump for me. They are sending me another set since I have a 10c temp difference between cards and intermittently get a black screen on cold/warm boots.

I also have my R1 and have no intention of selling it and/or buying an R2.
    Just thought I'd mention it.

Maybe we can start and -R1 veterans thread...for those who still have it generations after it was released, or 8 months...whichever comes first ;-)

If it was cheaper, then sure, but not at the moment. On the other hand, if it could make my Crysis mods and configs honestly run a steady 10-20 FPS (average) faster, then I might consider.

I've recently installed Win7 and downloaded the latest nvidia drivers off their site. When I play any game, it doesn't run completely smooth, and feels slightly stuttery. It was not like this on Vista (it ran completely smooth). I haven't overclocked anything and I've tried setting everything to low and high (no difference in stutters). What could be the problem?

yea at first i told them to give me an r2 when it launches here since the 4870s were not available in my country for some reason. that would mean by the time the 4870s reach the r2 would launch as well.

in the end they decided to bring in the cards specially(which is why im fretting cos i get the feeling they are refurbs since they arent manufacturing them in asia pacific) to try and fix it.

i told them some ati people are still having problems and if the atis dont solve my problems i want the issue escalated for a refund or replacement(r2). but now that the r2 issues are also quite bad i think i wana go for the refund if possible or wait till the issue is solved or an r3 comes out

    that's just it my friend...
the whole purpose of playing maxed out is just that...maxed out. no alterations of config files and everything is on ultra high settings..including the os settings...laptops haven't past this part just yet...and that's why they will never catch a high end desktop system....(just some add convo)

    Hi theres,

Does anyone know what the little clear white plastic piece inside the back of the middle vent is for?

I thought it might be a heat sensor or something perhaps.
Anyway that piece of plastic has now come loose and is going all over the place. it is now stuck on the side of the vent.

    Any ideas people?

    Is it important?

    Cheers.
